I usually hang around the small engine forum. I just bought a 99 Troy-Bilt LTX 16 Hydro Garden tractor for dirt cheap. I had bought it for the engine ( V-twin ), but when I got on it to see what it would do, I ended up driving it all around the yard. Runs too nice to part out. I am missing the mower deck and a decent hood. What I need to know is what size the deck should be ( I'm guessing 48 inch? ) and what other MTD brands shared this tractor? I saw a Bolens that was the same, but I don't know the Bolens model number. I got a bagger setup with it, but the deck is MIA. The tractor appears to be a decent built unit, except for the hood. A really bad design. Any info would be appreciated greatly. know my Craftsmans ( AYP ), but this is a whole different bird!

Hi bonus.........yes these are pretty good tractors. At 1999, these were Gardenway, which also owned Bolens at the time. Earlier years these LTX were labeled Bolens/Troy Bilt. I do think MTD was doing some of their manufacturing around this time.

If you look at the sticker you will see a model number other than LTX 16 like 13104, which is the LTX 15.5. There should be a sticker on the side of the console frame when you lift the hood........drivers left hand side. Off hand your might be a 13105 model. You will find that each manual covers several models for the year of offering. proving specs for each and the differences between. I think if you enter 13104 or 13105, this will get you very close to the year model you have. At least a start. This model number will get you all the manuals you need at MTD or Troy Bilt manuals. MTD has uploaded the manuals for most of the Troy Bilt Gardenway models that existed before MTD bought the name in the Bankruptcy.

Slight EDIT. looks like MTD and Troy Bilt not longer lists these manuals. I have no idea why they would spend the time loading them on their site and then taking them done. I did locate a manual for you here.

Troy-Bilt Lawn Mower 13104 User's Guide | ManualsOnline.com

That manual is mislabeled its just a parts catalog. I will locate my manuals and upload them. This parts catalog will help you find parts on other models that will work on yours.

This line had all kinds of good stuff, options. Like electric lift, accessories like tillers, Vanguard Twins engines. Eaton Hydro's.

There were 3 decks that were offered in for these LTX models. A 38" rear discharge and a 42" and 48" side discharge models. All the accessories worked on the various LTX models, if the power or trans allowed it. Your bagger will work on the side discharge models. Did you get the "power packer plus" with the bagger as well. I have been search for the 38" deck just to do heavy grass to deposit it behind without the use of a bagger. But might be interesting to modify for a central rear bagger.

I do think MTD used this frame for a while........and some things like rear sleeve and the front bumper will work for them. Also the Ariens 36" dual stage snowblower actually mounts on very easily.

yeah these are plastic hoods, so like all plastic hoods.......care has to be taken. I will say removing and attaching can be a pain at first.......just big and bulky, and flexible........makes putting the last hood pivot pin in a PIA.

Good news.........many of these are always parted out..........so a ready supply of parts are available if needed.

Thanks for the info. I found some paper manuals on Ebay, so I bought them as they were very reasonable. I've been watching Craigslist around my area and surrounding states, but nothing so far. When I wasn't looking, I remember seeing them now and then. I'll keep looking as it is a beefy tractor, runs too nice to part out.

Glad you found some. Its a shame that MTD removed those manuals from their site. I have the manuals for my accessories, so if you need one of those let me know.

:ditto: on being beefy tractors. You started off with the LTX16, which is probably the Vanguard twin, Eaton 751, electric lift, and cruise control. You will be happy when you find a deck............they do leave a pretty good cut as well. Just need to modify the power pack plus because its weight makes the deck lean to that side.

I just saw you are kind of local as well. I will keep an eye out for you as well up here.

Mine is the 13105 unit. I read the owners manual tonight and I have all the options that go with the 13105. I am hoping to get a few minutes this weekend to really look it over and figure what's missing from it.

Yeah I started with a 13104 ,but might be at 13104.5 now. Added an Eaton 751. electric lift kit waiting to go on, arm rests, and gauges. .........and have the Vanguard 15.5 single.

I modified an Simplicity cab for it..... but Troy Bilt did have an awesome soft cab that looked great. If you going to use it for the snow......that is rare accessory.

I think you will really enjoy yours. :thThumbsU

I bought a LTX 13 Hydro last week. I bought it for the hood, but it's too nice to part it out. So tonight I got a hood from I guy in Arizona for $100, including shipping via FedEx. I found one in Schenectady, NY, but the guy won't answer my questions and answers in one word replies. Says it's for sale, but won't reply half the time, so I gave up on that one.

I send you an email with some pictures. Its hardly used. The cowl/hood on this one is quite trashed. so would of been no help you.

I will pm you tomorrow when I call and talk to this guy again.

Well. my deal for a hood fell thru. He went to wrap it up to ship and he said it started to crinkle and crack. The Arizona sun is brutal on plastic hoods and seats. So, I am again in the market for a hood. so close........

I finally got the snowblower attachment for the LTX 16. 2 stage and is complete except for the crank for the chute. he gave me 2 pieces of stainless rod and a u-joint to do it.
I also found a 42 inch deck that was used 1 season and removed from a tractor. The 1st owner took it apart for some reason and stored everything. The guy with the snow blower turned me on to the 2nd owner, who never used it. It is so nice, the paint is still on the bottom side of the deck. Best S50 I ever spent! ( Jack- I sent you pics, hopefully they got to you. )
