I used some Valspar cub cadet yellow paint on a few small parts. Its is a lot darker then Oem. It looks like caterpillar Yellow. Does any one know where I can get the Correct yellow in spray cans maybe rustolem or other brands. Im Not restoring the tractor just painting a few parts that were rusty But I want them to Match Rest of the tractor. I think The Case IH paint matches but its $14.50 a can. let me know thanks.

what type of cub are you painting. From what I've read there are a few different IH-yellows and whites. The TSC yellow may match, just not your particular model.

I came across this one day.... http://ihregistry.com/ref/paint2.html

IF you can find it, try Van Sickle paint. The white matches really good, so I have to kinda assume that the yellow does too. Plus I really like the way it coats. Nice stuff. I like it a lot better than Valspar. I get my Van Sickle paint at Orchlens Farm and Home.

Actually, the older cubs color was federal yellow,IH code 483 and later 483B.

I'm slow without my coffee as well.

What model Cub are you painting?

I only mess around with older Cub Cadets (Wide Frames and back) the Valspar "5339-25 Cub Cadet Yellow" spray bombs seem to match pretty well. The Valspar "5339-26 Cub Cadet Beige" is also a very good match, however it doesn't have the olive tint like IH "White/Blanc 991115N" has. But I find that most of the Olive tint on the "white" parts on the older Cubs has faded so I guess you could call Valspar "5339-26 Cub Cadet Beige" a match for "faded paint".

I think your Cub dealer is taking you to the cleaners... The last "Federal Yellow 991098N" I bought from our local dealer (keep in mind this was on 12-04-07) was $5.48 a can.

Not sure I've been any help here but I hope you find what you're looking for.

The CC yellow @ TSC is the newest yellow,I used it under my deck and it's a match! I like that yellow alot!

DustinH,

Yes, Case IH dealership here in Illinois. Keep in mind that it was nearly two years ago so I'm sure the price has gone up some by now.

Is it possible that the paint on your 122 is badly faded, making the new paint look really dark once you get the newly painted parts side by side with the tractor?

I think I would take one of your newly painted parts to your friends house and hold it up next to his tractor to check the color match, it is possible that you got ahold of a can that was mis-labled or a bad run of paint that got past the factory inspectors.

I really hate to see someone spend 15 bucks for a $3.00 can of paint...

I have found that the TSC cub cadet paint will not match the older IH built cubs. I have compared it to unfaded paint found under the engine of an Original and a model 70 and it looked almost pastel compared to the IH paint. I have found that the school bus yellow from Rural King is almost spot on for the older IH paint. Correct IH yellow from the Cub Cadet dealer where I work is 10.13 a can for spray bombs. I used the school bus yellow, which is federal yellow I think or very close, on a 149 that I restored and it looked great. Mike
