OK so my 1974 ariens s16 runs great. But ya know, its old. I prep for things to break. I would like to pick up another engine in case mine goes. Wanted a twin cylinder. They are much smoother. What engines will bolt up with little to no modifications? Would like something newer. Maybe a new vanguard? Anyone?

Kohler magnum should fit, I have a Kohler Command v twin. Honda v twin is a very nice engine but the Command and Honda will cost around $1,500 or so new.
The Kohler Command is a very common engine to find used and parts are easy to find.

My tractor is a 9310019, that has the KT17 in it. It is widened for the opposed engine. When I pick this up in a couple of weeks, I'll know more as I have been using measurements from the manual for the fitment. Another problem I came across with this engine is the metric crank. It is 36mm and not standard for any pto clutch. Worked out a solution for that as well but I don't want to give out to many spoilers for the swap.

I'll start a new thread and leave you with another teaser picture.

Cheers,
