My Cub Cadet 2145 is giving me pto trouble. I think the bearing is seized. First it was slipping in tall grass after I mowed for an hour or so. Then, the pto stopped disengaging. When ever the engine is running, the blades are spinning.

The torque stud is broken off, and the wires stop it from spinning. With the pto belt removed, if I turn the pulley, it turns the engine, with power or not. Even with the wire harness removed. Shouldn't it spin freely without the clutch engaged?

Thanks

I need to replace this pto clutch. Its almost $300 from my local Cub Cadet dealer. Online, I find them for $100-200. Can anybody tell me why I shouldn't go cheap on this? Are the aftermarket pto clutches junk?

I finally got around to replacing the clutch on this Cub Cadet 2145. I bought the part from Xtreme Clutches on Ebay. I don't know how long it will hold up, but the part seems to be good(it works), and it was very well packaged. The parts even came with very good directions.

A few things for the next guy. When the clutch failed, I removed the belt and used the tractor to pull a cart. I unplugged the clutch wires troubleshooting, and one of the junction plugs melted to the muffler. Don't do that! I had to cut the plug off and use butt connector splices.

The crank shaft end was slightly mushroomed, I had to hammer off the old clutch and clean the end of the shaft with sand cloth.
The keyway was also damaged. I used a dremel to open it up, a file might have been better.
