Oh boy, here we go. The question is, To Be or Not to Be a Solenoid Starter. haha

In either case of technology OGR starter or Solenoid starter can be fixed.

On the solenoid starter, the solenoid can be replaced. That is how to rebuild that type of starter.

On the Offset Gear Reduction (OGR) Starters like the Denso, Bosch, Bendix, etc. (modern technology starters) the motor can be replaced to rebuild the starter.

In many cases today, the old school solenoid starters can be replaced with a comparable OGR starter.

It's just a common conventional starter with the common bendix-type solenoid bolted on top. That's all I have ever seen on farm tractors. As I mentioned this is a 5065 John Deere.

I'm just peed because John Deere will not provide common parts for their tractors and aftermarket parts are almost impossible to buy. They are forcing us to buy an expensive complete starter when we only need a simple solenoid. My second complaint is that those solenoids are going out on brand new tractors.
