I know this has been brought up before but what ideas on raising the handlebars on a 5665? I found a couple videos by a guy named tinsley207 on YTube and he has some type extensions bolted on his bars to raise them by a few inches. I am 6' 4" tall and would like the extra height.
Anyone with info on this or pictures ? Please post
I would say some type of bolt expansion plug in the end of the bars would be the best way to attach instead of welding. I am repainting entire tractor now and looking for ideas.
I also have an Exmark WB with the ECS controls specifically for the extra height on it.

I believe what tinsley has there is a set of vertical extensions or pistol grips. This relieves the stress at the wrists due to poor positioning at the grip. If you've ever had radial nerve pain as a result of running these tractors, you'll appreciate something like this. I'm interested as well, so why doesn't someone e-mail him. I know he's on the forum as well...

I was just in the shed, and noticed the different machines had different height handlebars,,, :hide:

The 5665 with 16" tires and the 30" mower or sickle has a 38" height to the center of the handlebars.

The 5260 and 16" tires with a 40" kidney mower only has 34",,,,

The 10 Pro and 18" tires & cultivator has 38" when tilling, 35" when moving around the shed.

What attachment are you using!!?? :dunno:

I guess the 5665 with 38" high handlebars is my favorite for a reason!! :fing32:

For what it is worth, the 1987 Pro Models parts list and operators manual shows adjustable handlesbars that can be raised. I assume that it was an option.

PM sent to tinsley207. I think I may be poking him out of deep MTF hibernation.:sidelaugh

Those handles on tinsley207's tractor are home made. I know because I made them for him. First picture is installed on his 5260. Second is before red paint, and shows the important details. I can scrounge sketch and dimensions for anyone interested.

Very nice Bookman! Just like a gooseneck on bicycles for attaching. I believe from the pics I can make or have made something similar. Thank you for posting.

I am looking at possibly just making longer support bars from the two top motor bolts and see how far I can raise them that way.

thanks again.

Forgive me everyone, yes I seem to have been in "forum hibernation"! I can only say I simply can't live without my "pistol grip" handle bar extensions! I was so pleased when bookman showed them to me! I'm about 6'1" and was talking with him about having to bend a little at the waist when operating my 5260. Next thing I knew he had designed and built a prototype for me to try! Incidentally bookman is responsible for getting me interested in Gravely's in the first place! He is also a great writer and enjoys writing about his Gravely experiences. In fact he's posted his writings once or twice here in the forum. Check them out, good read!

I will post a video tomorrow showing how they attach and how I use them!

Sweet design!

My old school C8 has what feels like really low handlebars - enough so riding the sulky can be more interesting than it needs to be; like the L models. I've been thinking about ways to change the mounting angle so they are a bit higher, but that is easier said than done.
