First step is to disconnect the shaft drive from the transmission. There is a slide coupling which gets pulled forward, like an air fitting then slide the coupling off. Clean and regrease this coupling before reinstalling. Remove the belt guards on both sides of deck. There is a motion limiting bumper that must be loosened next; then remove the spring on the tensioner. There may be an idler pulley that has to be removed, but I don't remember. Buy $90 belt. As mentioned, make a detailed drawing before removing belt.! While in there lube all 12 fittings with 2 shots of JD high pressure grease. And remove the side plug in the gear box to check fluid level. Uses JD type GL lube or synthetic will work. The fluid should be at the bottom of the fill hole. You could also hand rotate the shafts and idlers to check for roughness. They should feel smooth. Do not use an automotive type belt if you value longevity. They cannot stand up to the potential stress.
If you want to remove the deck, lift the tractor with a come-a long or winch and pull the deck out to the front. Good luck. Larry
