Well- I went and tried sealing my rear patio Sunday-(tried is the opportune word here) :thSick: --that was a waste of time/money--I had heard good things about a water-based sealer by Quikrete-similar to this, but for bricks/patio blocks...
Nada--after useing a small pump sprayer--and it dryed out-(3 gals. worth_ -I really didn't see any difference. I guess I'm going to do some more research--and go w/ an epoxy based sealer applied w/ a roller. I need to get it done before temperatures drop....
Some pic's to follow tonight...

Well-first lesson learned here--the {Waterproof sealers} might be good for wooden decks/fences-etc.--but they sure don't seem to enhance or protect a masonary finish.:fing20: That's right four hours of my time-and a fair sum of $$-
So I'm off Friday to get some projects done--Early a.m.--go by a building supply co. that we deal with @ work (like I should have done to begin with) and I pick up 5-gals of masonary sealer by Drylok Corp.--same people that make hyd. cement/additives--
I apply it heavily with a long-nap roller, filling the cracks as I go--it takes 1/2 the time of the original spray on deal......worse-most time-consuming was cutting in the edges/corners with a brush....

Here's a couple photo's--then it rained for 14 hours , so it's really beaded up good this morn. Instructions say you only need one coat--but I have about two gallions left--so I called the salesman--asked about a second /finish coat--he said let it set up for a week--the go for it!! Because you can't apply it under 50 deg. or let it freeze.

Last pic is after drying about two hours--the little 'swirl marks' in the middle of some of the blocks must have been where they froze together the winter I bought them--as they were stacked outside on seven pallets for months on end..
Kinda adds a neat little difference, I think..

So next weekend--that roller and I have another date!!

Another little project "On the List"---dug out and formed up a small concrete ramp going into my crawl space under the house....Have to go under there once in a while to check the water softener controls--and my pool stuff is stored there--so I'd been meaning to do this for awhile. After another week--I'll pull the forms out---redestribute the mulch covering--and move my landscape rocks to border it. Then I just need to re-bury the wire (on L) in conduit--going to my pool GFCI....and sand-reseal the little door.

My little 4' X 4' apron!

And then --some more cold-weather pansis's we planted last weekend...

I see a snow plow in one of the pictures. Made the long, lonely trek from Kewanee, IL to NJ?

Like the flamingos, to. Those a gift from Edward? He used to have them in his avatar....

Nice pictures of the homestead.
Ya know, as soon as I saw the flamingoes...(is that the Quayle spelling? Does the plural get an "e"? bah..)

Nice place Glenn!!

Nice place... and this is a post that I can't let my wife see! All this "handy man" stuff and yard beautification ideas will get me in hot water. The only thing that really interests me is that really cool lawn chair I saw in one of the photos. Seriously... the ole' Hacienda is looking good Glenn! :fing32:

Folded up and put away in the garage for the winter--unless I get 'banned " out there for some reason (little RED tractors)..:eek:mg:

Got a question or2 on the pool;

Is that just a plain ol tarpaulin?

And do you treat the water in any special way, or do you just run the pumps/chemicals on a schedule during winter?

No--Edward--it's a special pool winter cover--designed to let most water thru--but keeps the debris/leaves/etc. out---You 'supper-shock' the water about 48 hrs. B-4 shutdown--then drain it below the skimmer box. Put the cover on the skimmer box--plug the inlet hole--but leave the outlet hose attached--just to drain on the ground--as you will get ice in there--and as it expands/.contracts--it needs to flow out...
Dis- connect alll hoses--pull all the plugs on the pump/motor and filter--and just let them drain.
Next spring--just hook everything up--reverse the process. A couple hours at each end w/ two or three people for the cover....

the covers i have come with little holes built in and I expect that is for rain to pass thru but every time it rains, the rain water pushes the cover down and the pool water comes up, and I will get about a foot of water on top of the cover. And then theres the debris, so I cant just pull the cover and let the surface water/debris fall into the pool; I find I skim, then siphon it off. What a pain. I have to tape over the built-in holes in the tarps or covers I buy but that doesnt last long. That and I get these owls trying to land on it...

So I am trying to decide; buy (yet another) cover for the winter, or drain the pool down and let it lie empty for a few months. I can probably fill it and start swimming again in early April, so 4 months of down time.

I have the same thing happen--I have to skim the leaves/debris several times--and have a little siphon pump to try to get some of the water off the top. I have heard not to leave a pool empty--especially a stand alone above -ground , like mine--screws the liner up....

I have been wondering lately , "whats wrong with me ?" I have so many irons in the fire at one time.
Heck , look at you , Im normal!!!:sidelaugh :sidelaugh Thanks for the nice pics.:congrats:
Oh--projects you WANT??? Irons in the fire? Let me look any direction--

1st a small load of topsoil a friend delivered Monday--got a couple ruts/holes around--and I need to re-scape my front ditch where a water line was put in last year--and a cross-eyed monkey graded it--water just sits there..
:banghead3

And then --who's gonna know when some of these re-do's are done or not??
{pretty much pick your color....}

Had a decent day for outside activites--and no one here to steer me in other directions...:hide:
Outside spigots cut off/ wintyerized/covered--everything put away...

Got the rest of my side privacy hedge thinned down--and the old tree's that had taken root last year out/cut up / and hauled to the wood side burn pile...

Had to make a couple extra loads--'cuz my bigger tote trailer is loaded doiwn right now...Oh--well--gave the GT some breathing time..

Just not enough daylight anymore to accomplish any more outside jobs...:Disgus:
**********
{I'm hoping my Lady is going to serve that big pot of chili, that she fixed the other day, and a couple nice thick sandwiches for supper, }:goodl:

Well, last weekend turned out nice enough, the two of us could get outside and round up those millions of leaves...
By this time of year--I've usually already gotten them up twice--but lately--seems like every day, it's another emergencey or something..

Anyway-I have one pin oak left--and those little leaves get into EVERYTHING!
These pic' show after one pass in one direction, and then a second in the opposite direction.
Going slow, ground speed, and the newly sharpend "Gator Magnums" fill the bagger up quick. Luckily--it was dry, too--you will never get them if they get wet and mat down..:Disgus:
and five hours later--Ta -da!

I thought there was a post about Christmas pic's somewhere--but I couldn't scrounge it up--so here's one of my decorations---my lady bought me this tractor 'in a 'box'--she said it's my Xmas--but get it out early--:crybaby:
Anyway--It's the only green tractor on the property-:Stop: -so then I put the little green trailer behind it, and strung some icles lights around the edges--like Santa is pulling it along--then lights around the workshop--this is right @ dusk...
