I was walking through the flea market today and seen this little plow disk thing for a Gravely and bought it. Paid $40 - not sure if that is way to much or not but thought it looked neat... Wife said its $40 bucks get it if you want - then, whats it for. Said just looks like a Mini plow and disk, presume it is used the same..... Am I right ?

Is it a plow or is it a disk? We can't tell you much with that description :hide:

Or post a picture... I think you know by now that we like pictures on here, especially for identifying things.

Sorry - had a file type error and the photo didn't post. Think it is fixed now....
Thanks
Its a unpowered cultavator. 40 bucks you done good :thThumbsU

It's a toolholder with some sort of ridger or shovel/steel on the shank. Most of the ones you see are set up for cultivating, but Gravely sold all sorts of different tools to bolt up and you can put just about whatever you want on there. The metal wheels are for setting the depth.

Here are a few pictures of mine showing the different tools they've come with.

Standard 5 cultivating steels and a homemade grader blade (Gravely did make a factory version, too):

every tractor ive got came with one it feels like. $40 isnt a bad deal. if nothings froze up, id pay it.
Yeah, I figure it must have been something like 90% of tractors sold before the '60s came with a toolholder. They were cheap and people used to have decent-sized gardens. I must have five or so front-mount toolholders from package deals. By the time the late '50s/early '60s roll around you find a 30" mower with every tractor you buy.

The toolholder is surprisingly useful. I acquired several with assorted tractors, and always piled them in the back of the barn. Tried one a couple years ago, and discovered that it's a simple and effective way to prep rows for planting, and for ripping up weeds between rows later.

then when you get into the super convertibles and L8 you always get commercial 40s. at least around here. the homeowner ones (with wheels) are the ones i like finding. anyhow. there are so many attachments for the tool holders and they are so versitile that they are good to have around. just the plate is worth about $20 here.

Sweet - good to hear. Think I may throw it on tomorrow and run it through the garden for a little testing. Nothing is froze up so I may just sandblast it real quick and shoot it with some fresh paint.
Thanks

They are common. Heck I have 2

came with a 53 and 63 L8

Came on a 64 L8

Took a minute but found a pic of my 2. They are useful for things. I use mine for raking threw my onions before a powered attachment goes threw in case I missed any.
Yours maybe set up to plant rows I'd guess. Making one single pass. Make trench put seed or whatever in. Cover over just a guess.
Now 30 inch decks? I have one for each tractor you do the math on how many lol. That is the most common attachment IMHO

You're slacking :ROF I even traded one away because I figured I couldn't possibly use that many (of course, that doesn't stop any of us as far as tractors go, does it :D). I need to get a 30" deck or two traded off at some point as well.

I've really been itching to try out the rear toolholder sometime and see what it's like. The front-mount version balances really well on the old manual start Ls.

Yep im big time slacking :sidelaugh :lalala: I try to only keep 2 extra of things........ Well you know how that goes :hide:

Where did the traded one go?? :dunno:
I'm waiting to see what sort of creative uses you've come up with for it :fing32:

(Besides as a weight to keep your sawhorse from blowing away...)

The guy also had a pulley mount and think he wanted $40 for that also. Just had NO idea in the world what I would need that for so I passed on it.
Thanks for all the info.
If the weather holds I am going to the garden to do some "testing"
