Hi; I'm coming to the forum w a few Qs re the used 755 4WD w BH and FEL I just bought; It has ag tires and I want to go to turf. After extensive research some of which like in tractordata.com is way incorrect acc to a yard that has 7 of the 755s and also the local dealer. Both said U have to match the 33x12.50-15 Rr to a 23x8.50-12 F to keep 4WD ratios correct. The other available 31' Rr size used a different F size (25x8.50-14 not the size tractor data.com says) I want to know why I shouldn't go to a wider tire like a 9.50 or 10.50 on the front(12x7" rims) if I keep the 23" height[for correct ratios using the stated 33" Rr size to match] I'd like the extra support on the kinda heavy front end on a lawn w low soft spots. Q is will it be a lot harder to turn or something undesirable? 2nd Q Local Kubota sales rep was a JD service manager for 20+ yrs and knows the 755 well. Said the frame was never really meant to have that much weight F and Rr (w FEL and BH) and hitting a bump in a field going too fast could actually break the frame in half. I looked at tons of these and saw v few with a BH. Most had FELs and often mowers. Anyone ever heard of this prob w the frame? I'm an old bodyman and was thinking of reinforcing it. On rusted car frames we used to call it "fish plating" or some such. I tried to find a tire change thread to answer me w/o success Thx Gus

33x12.50-15 Rr to a 23x8.50-12 F are the correct tires for a 4WD 755. The 31X15.5-15 are for a 2WD 755. The existing rear AG tires are on 16" rims so you will also need new 15" rear rims.

The front 7" rims would probably work for 9.5 tires, but a 10.5" will need a wider rim.

Gotdeeres; Thx, but I'd like to know if you've actually tried to put the 10.5s on the 7" F rims. My tire guy who is good says they should work though if you push the tire width too far you'll end up riding on the sidewall. Also on the ATV forum guys are putting 12" wide tires on 7" rims and doing OK!! I wouldn't go that far. Also the 6ply Deestone tires I want in 10.50-12 have a rounded shoulder not squared like some so that should help in turning reaistance and the prob w getting them too wide for the rim. Whaddya think? Gus

Deeregus,

I had a JD 717A Zero Turn mower that came with 7" rims and 23X9.5-12 tires. I tried to replace the tires with 23X10.5-12 tires. When I did a fast turn, they would spin on the rim and go flat.

You need to check the tire specs to see what the manufacturer recommends.

This picture shows a Deestone 23X10.5-12 on the left and a Carlisle 23X10.5-12 Super Lug on the right. The rims were 8.5" rims and it was almost impossible to mount the Deestones on them. I called the distributor and he said Deestones did run a little small. WHAT!! Figures do not lie, liars figure.

The Deestones might work OK, but I will never buy them again.

Thx GD; V informative. The diff between those 2 tires supposedly the same size is unreal. Seeing is believing. I'll just try and see I guess on the 7" rims and resell them if its NG. Quip about liars will go in the quip book thx HA We live in a time when honest advertising may be a bit scarce. I'm going to write a book on JD tire conversion. There's a lot of misinformation out there, but I listen to guys who have made the mistakes trying to find out what works like yself. Gus
PS who on the forum knows about using a 7 BH on a 755? I'm hearing scary things re 3 pt backhoes on a smaller machine.

Is the 7 a 3PH BH? I never had any experience with the 7 so I don't know -- but always thought it was a subframe mount. :)

OK It's Gus again. I thought I'd post this cause it weas a dog to dig up. I found a pdf file from Woods Equip that shows what a subframe for a BH looks like and there's a LOT more involved than what I thought. Trying to make or adapt one for my JD755 would not be a casual undertaking. You can see the unit w a search for the "4 pt hitch kit" #1028300. It looks V beefy and well engineered to distribute the stresses in question. I'd be V curious to know if any gonzo CUT owners have attempted this

Gus,

Though I can't quantify the numbers; it's not like every other 755/7 owner split his tractor in half. I would think as long as you kept it in perspective, the combo should do exactly what it was intended for. :)

Guys, hoping I can jump in here with an answer and a question :)

Re JD 7 Backhoe: I have one on my 955 and it does indeed have a subframe as part of it. It does not look like an optional piece of equipment but rather integral to how it hooks up. So though it does mount where the 3PH goes, it is in-fact a sub-frame BH. Perhaps that was removed/lost on yours? (not even sure if it could come off on mine, have to look)

Re Rim/Tire size: I have some beat-up R1's currently and am looking to put R4's on my 955 and am stuck. Neither the local tire guys nor JD dealership have been much help thus far (instead deferring to each other o_O). I understand that I need to maintain the same ratio between the outer (rolling) circumference between the front and rear tires due to the 4WD, but am having a hard time matching this to available rims/tires. Sounds like you guys have both been through this a couple of times, what am I looking for first?

Pit; My study of 3pt hitches and JD7 BH is leading me to find that yes the subframe is integral and all my angst may have been for nada. I'll know tomorrow when I see the 755 I'm looking to buy. Re tires: Holymoly such confusion. Tractordata.com supposedly lists correct sizing for turf and ag tires to maintain ratios, but I corrected the guy who runs the site on the 755 Rr turf tire size he had listed wrong. After going around on this for a week, I finally called my local JD dealer where the parts guy was feeling helpful and looked up the choices in his JD dealer only secret parts listing book, where we found no less than 3!! options for the 755. (tractordata listed 1) I then knew all the factory options voila. Otherwise do the lookup in the JD online parts catalog (goldmine for this type of Q) type in 955 then click 955 CUT, then alphabetical list, then R or F for Rr or F tires. BTW I bought some REAL beefy 6 ply A/T truck tires in [correct] size 33x12.50-15 (from tire rack) for the Rr of the 755 for like HALF what some turf tires cost. Awesome bog stompers and I can go 60 on the road too HA. Have fun Gus

At least you're having a great time learning about the tractor before you purchase it. :)

I'll know tomorrow when I see the 755 I'm looking to buy.
One thing I might do when looking at the 755 is to put some load on the BH. Namely use use the bucket to unload the rear of the tractor a little bit and leave it under some load while you do the rest of your walk around. Pressurizing the hydro on the BH for a couple of 5-10 mins can help spot leaks. Bought mine sight unseen and when I put load on the BH for more than 5 mins I realized I was either going to buy stock in JD Hydro fluid or wind up re-building the seals in the hydro block...been on a pallet under plastic for the better part of a year now :)

My JD parts guy acted like I was asking to put low-profile tires with spinner rims on when I asked about R4's (even though all new JD CUT's in their lot have R4's on em).

He eventually said that I would need Turf rims and then find someone who makes R4's to fit em...

Good idea to figure out the proper ratio, I'll have a look.

So I started from a known point WRT tire size that came from the factory; Turf tires. Looked the size up on the JD site and cross checked with my dad who has this tractor with factory turf tires. The Rear to Front ratio was 1.44

Using that ratio as a must have, I was then able to reference what JD recommended for R4 and R1 tires/rims (they dont give overall height though o_O) and compare it to the Titan tire site to find which tires give the actual overall height that I needed to have.

I came up with the following matrix of the options I think you have for the the 955 (just putting it here for someone's Google adventures in the future :)

Code:

Thx to all who tried to help me. When I went to look over the 755 I find it's a piece of crap. Wouldn't start, spewing ATF under load, busted welds etc. I got my deposit back and bought a new little orange thing today w 200 hrs on it and a NOS woods backhoe for a couple grand more than the disintegrating 755. No brainer. I now have some very nice turf tires and rims for a 755 4 sale. 33x12.5-15s and 23x8.5-15 all 6 ply. Maybe I'll ebay them so I won't have to eat return shipping. I get my diploma in tractorology 101 thx to youse guys. HA . Thx again Gus
