I don't know if it makes any difference or most of you may already know of this, but I contacted Sears about some business things and this is what I got back in email form:
Thank you for contacting Sears.

"We appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your Sears Credit Card information needs. As Citigroup now owns Sears Credit, we are unable to access your account information at this location. In addition, for security reasons, we are unable to forward to Citigroup Sears Credit any messages submitted through the web form on Sears.com or any e-mails sent to us."

It appears the revolving door of corporate business continues to shuffle around. I thought Citicorp was in deep doodoo. What's with this??

On the other hand I am told it looks good on your credit record if you are able to hold and maintain a Sears card. It shows responsibility.

Ya Sears is a shady business in my opinion. Thats why when I buy stuff from them, I buy online and pickup in store and get the **** out of there as quick as possible. If you follow that rule, you will be fine, if you don't, well god help you.

Sears denied me a credit card some years back to get a new TV set to replaced the kaput one. This was even though I had the same job and house for over ten years and no outstanding big debts. I went to Penny's and got the same set for $100 less and was approved in ten minutes. Thereafter, for every purchase I made, I sent a catalog picture and info to Sears CEO and reminded him that the company lost a sale. For reasons that escape me now, they got in trouble with several state atty generals for discrimination against certain consumers. I got a credit card app in the mail with a letter that they had re-considered my app (several years old) and I was approved. I sent the app back with a note that I was not interested. I have not spent one dime at sears since that time, and NEVER will.

I love my local Sears store.
:thThumbsU
Never had a Sears credit card and never wanted one. Always have been treated with the upmost curtisy and never have had a problem with any of the tools or equipment. I don't understand why anyone would want to post in the Craftsman forum if they hate Sears as many of you posters seem to do.....:banghead3

Theres a Sears Repair Center near me and its separate from the main store at the Mall here. It's like night and day.

The service at the repair center is pretty good, considering the average age of the guys helping you is half past dead and they shuffle their feet when they walk. But they try hard, they have good stories to tell and are generally nice.

The store however, whole 'nother story...

Try googling "City commissioner sears bathroom sting" without the quotes!! My kids will **** their britches before I let them go in there!
Man the sears here just needs help from the top down.

When you go in the tool dept and ask for help and the guy shrugs and says "sorry, you arent my customer", well... LOL

But to be fair, I think it goes by geographic location, and the hiring managers at the store!! Glad to hear people still having good experiences with them!:trink39:

I used to have a Sears card, carried it until it broke in half! That's been over 20 years ago. I have no need for one now, closest Sears store is 50 mi. away! I also used to use Craftsman tools, but the time came to step up to a higher quality. Now I won't buy anything from them that might have to have service. We're too far from any service center, last time we needed a switch for a dryer, it took 2 weeks to get it fixed.

My credit record probably isn't that good anyway, haven't paid any interest in more than 15 years! ~~ grnspot110

First of all I am not a great fan of sears either but smallfarmers entry made me think "why would he be posting on a craftsman forum if he hates sears so much. Not flaming him or anything just wondering about the logic.
upshift.

I like my local sears also. Friendly people, and if one cant help they get someone that can.Must be a local thing

Sears Credit charges 21% on balances. My family grew up on Sears, wore Roebucks and Jeepers instead of Levis and Converse. They certainly aren't the Sears of my childhood. I still buy from Sears but not with their credit card. The Sears card used to get my Mom in trouble with my Dad sometimes. Nothing is like it used to be.

Sears is still OK, just not what it used to be. I miss the Sears Hardware store that closed down because of Lowes and Depot surrounding them. I could find trimmer string, spark plugs, quality Craftsman hoses and some pretty decent people there unlike the other places. Change happens. I still remember every aisle, miss that store, bought my snow blower with tracks there. :sad_02:

Neat snow blower Jennifer.

All things change. I still take 30 year old broken tools into Sears and they are replaced with new.... as I said I have not a complaint against Sears but I do agree that there is a problem with some local stores from management down....seems as if they are there just to collect a paycheck without any desire to better the company they work for in the public view.

Thanks draddogs, the young man that sold me the snowblower knocked 10 percent off just because I asked him. I didn't want to drive the 20 miles to the Delaware store to save the 6% percent Pennsylvania sales tax so I just asked him if he would take 10% percent off and he said sure, no problem. They loaded it in my pick up for me too.

I bought the tracked one because my neighbor had one and he raved about how easy it was going up the steps to his back deck. Frankly, I found that it works about the same as the wheeled ones but it's unusual so that makes it cool. Only Honda makes a tracked version in two models now and they are three times what I paid for mine. I have only the Sears stores at the malls to shop at now. Craftsman tools are good, they are made in the USA and Sears stands behind them.

The ladies department has gone way down hill though. You used to be able to buy a nice outfit or a fancy dress for going out on the town that was fairly high quality but they have gone in a different direction now. They're trying to compete with Wal-mart on the clothing level.

I have only one credit card and sometimes I have to carry a balance for a few months when I make a big purchase but I don't pay 21% on the balance. :tsk:

Jennifer I know what you are saying on the quality of things..... seems that we the people of this fine country have been dumbed down to accept lesser quality and paying more in the name of inflation. Shame on us.
