Hi case guys

saw a case 444 on e-bay that is near me. looks pretty good, but I know nothing about case. I've read some on this forum and remember that there is one model that it is getting hard to find accessories for or that they won't interchange with other models. Will the mower decks etc. from any other models fit the 444. This one doesn't have a deck and wouln't be much good to me if I couldn't find a deck for it. I'd like to bid on it if I could get some answers to these questions. Thanks for the help!

My 442 supports newer ingersoll attachments (a plow most recently) with only minor modifications, so as long as you're a little handy it should adapt just fine.

As the 442 and 444 are closely related- my experience is that the Kohler engine is a gas guzzler but always starts even in the dead of Winter. I can still get most parts for it (last replaced steering parts, tie rod and points). It could be just that mine is tired as the hydraulics work but aren't impressive and the hydraulic transmission also works but even after replacing fluid etc. it just barely moves with a load on (trailer with 1/2 ton of compost) in low range and can't do anything much in high. It does what I ask like snow plowing, pulling the tiller and lugging material around in the car trailer, but I can't ask a lot.

As a 442 owner if it's your first tractor I'd say go for something with a mechanical drive train instead of hydraulics.

Here's the simple answer. If the 444 that you are looking at has the two spring-loaded pins on the very front of the frame, then go ahead and bid on it. Those pins indicate that the tractor will accept all of the newer style mid and front mounted attachments except for possibly, the 60 inch deck. The tractor would have to be a 1980 model or newer for that deck to fit.

There's a real good chance that YOU are running the WRONG oil in your hydraulic system and that's what's giving you most of your problems.

If you are not running 20W50 MOTOR OIL, then run to the closest store that sells Shell's Rotella T 20W50 in a five gallon bucket and change your oil not just once but twice to get the bulk of that wrong fluid gone from the system.

Then, I expect you to report back here with your findings. LOL

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate the help! I have all Bolens stuff so I know little about Case, but they say they are very good tractors and thought I might like to pick one up to add to my collection. You can never have to many you know!!:ROF :ROF

I have a 76 444 that has never been toredown. It still runs perfect. It does leak oil, and needs a muffler, but it starts every time and will pull anything that I tie to it. A restore of it is one of my next projects. Maybe I should insulate the garage first...

If your talking about the 444 out in Rochester, I would bid on it. Looks to be in pretty nice condition. It does have the newer attachment system, so you shouldnt have a problem adding anything
you might want to invest in. Also, that hard top cab seems to be
a rare accessory. Havent seen many at all - at least in the NY area.
Good Luck.

Bill,

Mower decks and most other attachments are frequently available on ebay and other places at a reasonable cost. Your biggest concern should be that once you purchase one Case they will begin to multiply.
