I have a 317 that I want to build a cat-0 3 point hitch for. I downloaded the drawings and am starting to gather materials for the build. Searching the net for a hydro cylinder has shown that they're quite expensive. I have a 317 parts tractor and am wondering if the lift cylinder from that will work to lift the 3 point?
I have the parts manual for the 317 that shows the cylinder for the regular hydraulics as well as the cylinder for the 3 point, they show different part numbers, not sure if they're really different, or that's because of the different usages. From the parts manual drawing they look alike but there's no specs or other info.
I know that there are a lot of resourceful people here. I figured someone has some insight to my question. I tried searching this site but haven't found what I need.

You may be able to make it work by adjusting the mount points.

But i think the deck cylinder has a shorter stroke. Hense why you would need to adjust where it mounts to still get full swing out of the hitch.

I think the ideal cylinders you want are the ones from the 4 way hydraulic plows. Atleast i think

Good luck! 3pts are nice!

Deck lift cylinder is 3" stroke and normally the 3pt cylinder is 4" stroke. A angle cylinder from a front blade is the same, 4". You should be able to get the 3" to work with slight mod to where it attaches to the lift linkage.
Mine, I use the lift cylinder with a linkage like for a Tiller, but plan to change it to a regular cylinder. thinking of using this one from Surplus City...http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?item=9-9879&catname=hydraulic

Thanks for info so far. I looked at the link posted. $60 looks a lot more attractive than at I've been seeing. Still, if I can use what I have that makes the project more affordable.
As far as modifying the mount location, I assume that I would be moving it more towards the rear to get more lift height from the 3" stroke?
Any thoughts on how much lift height would be lost if I used the regular mounting point with the 3" stroke? I'm guessing it's something other the 1" length difference.

Keep us updated on how it is going! If I had a 3" I owuld use it and just shorten the lift bracket. Also, let us know how you are tying in the hydraulics!

I'll post updates once I get this moving forward. For now I'm trying to put together the cost for the build. Luckily I have friends who can help out with this project. I can get the steel and have it plasma cut for cheap, also have a source for making the bends.
The plumbing hook ups are shown in the parts manual, and I have another print that shows how to connect depending on whether you want the inner or outer lever to control the lift. I would be glad to share that info if someone needs it. I'm definitely new to the hydraulics part of this but I think that an get through it.
As always this site is a great resource for this kind of stuff. I really appreciate every ones help, that's how we all get through life I suppose.
It will be several weeks before I actually get going on this but will keep up the post.
Thanks

I'm not sure that I understand that. Are you saying that one lever will allow it to float and the other wont?
I'm not real savvy with the hydro stuff. I didn't think that there was any down pressure on this machines hydraulics.

Inside lever, which controls the right front hydraulic ports, has a float position when the lever is pushed all the way forward and goes into a detent. Any other place that either lever is in is basically a hold position when the lever is returned to center. Might float a little but the true float is with the inside lever. It is mainly for up/down for the front blade so it won't dig in all the time and can jump over a bump if needed.
Most guys use the outside lever since usually the deck is off or adjusting all the way up when needing the 3pt.

I think I got it.
I just picked up a type 49 snow thrower yesterday and mounted
It up. I plugged into the left ports and using the outside lever
It moves up and down.
I really was just guessing/messing with it. I don't have a manual for
It yet.
Thanks for the info. Looks like I have more homework to do.

I bought an owners manual for the snow thrower online the other day, should be here soon. I'm going to put the thrower on the back burner for now. I want to get going on the 3 point lift.
My question today is about the center link for the lift. I cant find any info about it. I assume it's a common part. I need to know what to get as far as it's size, length, or where to get one. Is it something I can get at the farm supply store?
Thanks
