Something is not right, like it has 1/2 the umppf that it should, it was a sudden event, but not while I was mowing, but rather after it was sitting a week and I wanted to use it to mow.
It feels like 1 cyl is gone (thus I was thinking it was a spark plug or coil) with the lack of HP. With the engine running, when engaging the blades it normally will loose power and the engine will shut off due to the lack of power. If I can get it to spin the blades, when they are going, it is at a lower than normal speed. Also the ummpf (HP) for forward speed is not there either (with or without the blades engaged). So likely not the deck, but rather the engine is the culprit.
A mower mechanic said, take off the boot on a plug and see if it runs to determine if there is spark. Well when I took off the right boot, it would start up. But when I took off the left boot (right boot was back on), it would not start. So figured no spark on the right side. So I replaced the plug, nada, so then replaced the coil on the right, same results as before.
But then I removed the right side plug placing it against the block and tried starting it--I could see it sparking. WTH???
So not sure what it is. I also replaced the fuel filter just for in case as a precuation of blocked filter. It did not make a difference.
Anyway--it feels like 1 cyl is gone with the amount of lost HP (thus thinking originally it was a spark plug or coil) with the lack of HP. :banghead3
Any advice on what it could be?
I just do not have $88 a hr to pay a JD mechanic to fix it.
