Thanks Hammer, Your tractor looks good with the reverse rims. Gives a real good look too. While I have been thinking about winter traction with snow removal, I just realized about balancing the plow/snowblower. My 49 blower only lifts up off the ground about 3 inches. Kinda hard to put on a trailer and it catches the bottom of the plow going in to the garage. I'm thinking about buying a rear weight bracket and suitcase weights. I'll probably get more height under the blower in UP position.
Those 49 blowers don't lift very high. I have my back tires at about 5-6 lbs of pressure, filled tires, wheel weights and a 200+ lbs rock box on the 3PH. It lifts high enough, but it is still that much. :trink39:

Hello Itsjojo
You are welcome. I am Not a Big Fan of adding extra weight to my John Deere. I feel it put's extra stress & strain on the rear & front axles. With Bar tires you will get Much more traction but not be stressing the drive line parts or axles. Chain's are fine they will help with Traction but not as Much as Bar tire's without chains. I have seen some Tractor's Break the rear axles in the past that had a Lot of weight or added weights that is why I do not care for wheel weights and the extra weight from them will be harder on your bearing's being front and Rear. Extra weight also efect's stopping quick. By adding the Bar tire's to my 318 I can Now Till, Mow and use my Dirt dozer blade to Push dirt without spinning. We Hardly get snow here in East Tennessee so I do not have Nor Need a Snow Blower on my Tractor, But if we do I have a 54" Four way dirst dozer blade to move it where I want to. I realize many will argue about adding weight saying it Greatly improves the Traction, of which I agree, but in the same Realm I do Not want to Tax my driveline, Axles or Bearings as these are all High Dollar part's to replace, Therfore my $100.00 spent for the bar tires work's well for me...:fing32: Hammerdown

First off, the extra weight will not harm your 318! It is designed to have a loader and ballast on it and what you are adding for snow removal is not near that! Most people don't load the front tires it really doesn't improve anything since you'll have a blower up there to add weight! Loaded tires and wheel weights and I would try that with my bar tires without chains first, don't be afraid to really add some rear weight (up to eight 42 lbs. suitcase weights can be added on a bracket (they sell them on ebay!).

I do have a set of AG's that came on the 318. I took them off because my grass was very wet in spring and felt terf tires would be better and that is what you see on the machine in the pics.

I was kinda thinking a few rear suitcase weights like 150# or so shouldn't be too much I wouldn't think. I had been looking at rear brackets on ebay.

I am stuck here asking you guys questions because we arn't gettin any
Snow!!!!!:banghead3

If we got some snow here maybe I could try out the plow and blower and see how it does with the (tire & weight combo) I have on her. Yikes!:fing20:

Hello Isjojo
I don't mind a bit, Glad you enjoy it....:fing32: Hammerdown

Hello itsjojo
If it were me, I would turn your rear wheel's out. Simply Take them Off, Turn them around and bolt them back up. That will give you a much wider rear wheel stance and should Improve Much on your Traction.
If you want the wider spread with ags, you need to switch them from side to side. They are directional and just turning around them makes them run backwards.

It will not provide better traction. It will provide more stability on hillsides

Yea, I think that's my next project. I'll have that done in a few days.

Update on snow blower work.

Getting ready to put my 34T sproket upgrade on.

The shaft would not accpet the the new 34T gear or vise versa
Image

I heated the new gear at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. It just wouldn't fit on
the shaft. The old gear went on cold with a 2x4 and hammer. I chose to install the old gear as we may be getting some snow next week after Xmas. Gotta be ready!

I spent some time with the old chain getting things just right. Tight with a slight amount of slack.

Hello Itsjojo
I see some scoring or light rust on that shaft. Take some Emory cloth and polish it up good. If you do not have emery cloth just rip some 120 Grit sand paper in Third's and use it in a see-saw motion around that shaft till it shines and is Polished up like a Mirrior. I bet the gear will slide on it then. Use some Never Seize on the shaft once you see that the gear fit's to avoid future corrosion or scoring on it... Hammerdown

Time to kill tonight so I figured I'd start the Baseline maintenance list in the
FAQs.

I was dying to get a compression test on the 1983 Onan B43G.

Right side dry

I'm left wondering about the 10 or so psi from dry to wet on each cylinder? Love to hear your comments/ suggestions
Technicial manual indicates early 318 motors 100psi with a max difference of 10psi between cylinders....

Was the engine cold or warm when you did these? I read minimum compression on a B43G is 100, don't know for sure. Seems to be a big jump from dry to wet. If it's a cold reading, that could be why.

Yea, I thought I had followed all the instructions but did not warm up the engine. It was cold.
