The current build config on all the x500 machines shows the 47 in thrower
But I see some here on the forums have x5 machines with the 44" unit

Does anyone know if this is still an option, I'm looking at a new or used x534
And thinking the 44" would do fine for my driveway
Plus I found a like new used 44 thrower off of an x300

x500 takes the same blower as the x300 lines of tractors. The x530, x534 and x540 can take the 47 blower because of hydraulic lift. But, you can put the 44 blower on any x300 or x500 series of tractor no problem. Just check out my sig.

That just isn't so !!! I checked the web site and the X500 calls for the #44 snow blower

SNOW REMOVAL

44-inch Snow Blower (Select Series)

This thread may help a little. Pretty sure nothing has changed for this years models.

Deere doesn't recommend the 47 on the x500 because they assume everyone has a weak left leg. And they assume everyone with a a x530 wants a 47 because of the hydraulics. Oh, and it's more $$ for Deere. :fing32:

thanks for all the replies and info

I could go either 44 or 47" since I will likely be getting an x534

its also possible I can get away with the 48" blade instead of the blower

I like the x310 but I dont think i will make it up my driveway without diff lock
so I think its going to be a X534

The 47 is a monster of a snow blower, unless you have a huge driveway or get lots of deep snow go with the 44, still big but not too big.

OK I can stretch a little and call an an X530 a 310 with dif lock,( it's really hard but for the sake of augment) but why the 4 as in X534 ??

I do agree that JD complicates things. A better way would be...
X530,X534,X540 #44 blower , optional #47 blower. like automobiles write it.

I believe x360 with diff lock is what you mean. And that's still a stretch.

By the way KATT, I see a flake or two coming down out there. If anything sticks, that 44" blower on my X530 will come out to play. :drunkie:

Re: 44" snow thrower on a new x500 - YES!

I traded a 2008 X300 for a 2010 X530 earlier this year. I kept the 44" blower, since storage width was an issue. I confirmed on these forums that it would work ahead of time (much as you are doing). Just be sure to collect all of the mounting components for the blower from the underside of the X300 before you complete the purchase from the current owner. It will save you hassles and delays later. You can use the Deere manual mounting instructions to identify all of the parts. Good luck!

I have the x534 and the 44 inch blower which was left over from my previous x304. The blower fits and works fine, but the front gear box is fragile. I have blown the front gear box twice now. The first one was replaced under warranty. I like my x534, but if I were buying another one (not likely) I would not buy another all wheel steer model. You lose a lot of versatility for the convenience of all wheel steer.

Re: 44" snowblower gearbox damage?

Yours is the second report on the forums that I have read indicating any problematic experience with the 44" blower's gearbox. The other was posted by stladrill and he hit something that caused the damage. I am only in the third season of usage for my blower, but haven't experienced any problems with it other than a shear bolt breaking (a good thing). Do you know what caused the damage to your gearbox? Twice?

I don't know what happened either time but in both cases I was blowing snow with layers of ice in it. In both cases the shear bolts did not break. It appears that the gears failed. The second time this happened, the shaft which drives the augers was rusted so badly that I couldn't get it out of the gear box so I had to buy both the gear box and the shaft. Unfortunately I damaged the gear case pounding on it so it would be useless to help out if someone had an incident similar to the one that Stladrill had.

I bet the auger shaft is or was also rusted solid to the augers so that the shear bolts were rendered useless. They should have broken well before your gearbox did.

Is there anything that can be done to minimize the possibility of any sort of failure? This is only my second season with my 44" (if you call last year a season) and I'd like to think it will last a long while without any major issues. This is really the first time I've read of any real issues with the 44" blower. :thanku:

I put two coats of primer on the new shaft except at the middle where it goes through the gear box where I put anti seize compound. I suspect that if the shaft needs to be removed, some or all of the primer would need to be removed from the shaft in order to get the shaft out of the gearbox, but that would be much easier to deal with than the rust on the old one.

The state of Maine banned the use of "salt" on the roads, so now they are using Calcium Chloride or Magnesium Chloride either one of which is ten times worse than salt was.

Apparently there is a plug on the side of the gear box where you can check the level of lubrication in the gear box. The owner's manual makes no mention of this and I don't know what type of lubrication is used or how much there is supposed to be in there.

You could try a John Deere owners manual. OMM158542 CB, i.e. page 15
Checking Gearbox Lubricant. Hint: 80W-90 GL5 Gear oil, if necessary and there are 2 plugs. but I can't type the whole page.

slightly different question, on an X534 the 48" blade has downpressure?
x534 does have hyd lift , and it appears direct linkage fro mthe lift to the blade, but none of the sales material indicates downpressure is possible.

thank you in advance!
