I picked up this decent 1983 Model 30084S on Saturday. Found it on Craigslist in Tell City, Ind., and bought it as a package deal with a Weed Eater 20" walk-behind.
This Series 4 is the first Snapper I've owned, but not my first experience with one. My grandmother had one, as did my great-grandparents. I used both, and really enjoyed 'em. I've wanted one ever since, and now I have one.
I had to get some new bolts to remount the engine and then adjust the belt before I could mow with it, but after that, the machine runs nicely and cuts well, too. I do think it needs a driven disc (it has some cracks in it), and that's on my list of "must buy soon" items along with a new battery.
Aside from those items, I've got a few other little details to attend to on this one, but the work it needs seems to be within my (limited!) capabilities. I'll ask questions as needed, so you've all been warned! (LOL!) I've always been amazed how simple Snapper RERs seem to be, as well as their durability. I think I'm going to get a good many years out of it.
