I let the engine sit overnight with penetrating oil in the cylinders. This afternoon I poured fresh gas in the tank (approx. 1 gallon), replaced the plugs and turned the key. It fired after a few moments to reprime the fuel system. After a little fiddling with the choke cable, it runs almost perfectly!! :fing32: I was really surprised how quiet it sounded.

After going over everything, including the deck, I think I can see why it was parked: choke cable was bent at the "handle" end and couldn't return fully (&) someone installed one of the blades upside down.

Anyway, it's on to going over the wiring harness and getting a new belt for the deck. I was able to dig around here and find resources for a wiring harness and the service manual for the engine.

Thanks for all the help, everyone!

Update::
The PTO clutch it stuck "on", but the engine has enough power to start witht the deck turning! :fing32: G-1 needs a big :thanku: for the write-up on deck removal & replacement. I ended up using an old shovel handle I keep around for just this sort of occasion. I've got the parts to rebuild the deck lift lever on order from my local Simplicity dealer (5 minutes from home). Original belt is working just fine and the cut quality is excellent, even with old blades.

Now the only thing left to do is replace the plenum & figure out why it's surging a little.

@ G-1...those are the cleanest sunstars I've seen.
