Yeah buddy! Well I finally got me a roto spader! Picked this up last night after work. I couldn't post any pics because I didn't get home till 10:30 last night. But this thing is in really good shape! It appears to be all original including the motor. The only thing it needs is a good old breaker point sanding. It has piles of compression. I think this is the biggest one they made like 39'' or something? But yeah not bad for $100! Unfortunately I don't have a 3pt hitch right now, That is....... Until Saturday. Got another suprise coming up! Pics later! - Brad

I have the walk behind tiller that those are based on. Does anyone know what weight oil is used in the transmission. I am assuming 30 weight but really don't know for sure. Mine has the 2 speeds forward and one speed reverse feature. Roper built and Sears model number 917.291580. I know it is thinner than 90 weight. Roger

I decided to add some pictures of my Roto Spader that I need the oil information for. Roger
Nice tiller! The selective gear box is pretty cool! Yes they take 30w oil. I want to say it takes like 4qts or something? I'm pretty sure our gear boxes are the same except mine doesn't have a gear selector.

Yours is also missing a few tines. Still, sweet deal for $100! I have the same one, and that 8hp Briggs is plenty of power. Check the breather tube over really good, if it's cracked you can dust the engine pretty easy in this application.

That looks like a great tiller. That surprise wouldnt happen to be a '68 Super 12 hydro-trac with a 3 point would it? Hows the sub 12 resto coming?

Are you sure its missing tines? I looked up the manual on http://www.searstractormanuals.com/ And the tiller in the pic only has two tines on each keeper. Was the extra tines optional?

Good deal ! Mine is the same but has a support bracket for the end of tines.
Thanks Small Fry! Yeah I noticed mine didn't have that bracket. Must have been something the new ones had.

Thanks SS/12! Good guess, But just a little more horse power lol! Its coming with a 3 point hitch and a fairly rare front mounted attachment.:trink40:

Your not getting the front mule drive slot counter weight are you? I really want one of those.

Now that I look again, you may very well be right. The one I have has the support arms at the end, so it is different than yours.

I have a Craftsman 917.252494 and the gear box holds 40 OZ. of SAE 30W.
No changing gears with mine. Only one speed and it wants to push my GT6000 sometimes. If I use it much I will have to fill the tires and add weights. It almost pushed me into my pickup once. LOL

I wish! I want one too! Those are really rare. Most I've seen are home made.
