Ok, last year I was discussing with my neighbor the BX tractors. In passing he mentioned what he paid for it and that he was going to use it for a year or so then resell it, at which time I mentioned that I would buy it when he wanted to sell.

This spring was supposed to be his time to sell, but hes not done with his projects yet.

The problem is that my Mower (G4200) started acting up and I dont trust it anymore as it has 3 million hrs on it.:eek:mg: So looking around for a new mower I found a guy with a BX24 and a whole bunch of accessories. The only problem is that its probably going to cost me about 6K more than my neighbors tractor.

The 24 that Im looking at has a MMM, MCS, loader/B hoe, tooth bar, and a Snow blower, plug in engine warmer and an alternator.

The guy with the BX24 is asking 18,900 but in talking to him I think we both agreed that is a sucker price. Im thinking 16K ish, but Im having trouble getting the wife on board.

The BX23 my neighbor has has only the B hoe and loader.

So what Im looking for here is some pros/cons of each tractor.

I know the BX24 has plastic fenders and hood, so leave that out for now.

Is the 24's loader/backhoe with the curved booms any better than the 23's strait arms? Does either one have any major differences or features that are beneficial?

So, 16K for a loaded machine or 10K for a basic loader/B hoe?

.

Given the prices you're talking you'd likely be better off in the long run looking at a brand new BX25. Bought mine with a 54" MMM for $18K flat. The loader and hoe arms are curved on the 25.

Are the curved arms better in some way?

The thing about this package Im looking at is it will cut my grass, do my leaf pickup and I can make money with the blower.

I clear snow for four houses with 100"+ driveways and also the 1/3 mile lane that they sit on.

Just trying to figure out between the two base tractors what advantages each has over the other?

My take on the purpose of the curved arms is improved visibility. Never been on anything other so can't speak to comparison.

The BX24 is from the BX--50 series. Many owners of those machines had issues with abrupt stopping, especially in reverse. So that would be something to check for, in addition to some of the other --50 series recall issues.

I tend to agree that a BX25 is probably a better approach. If you can't afford new, there is what looks like a nice used one, tlb with mower deck, on craigslist and located in Winchester Va. I think it was $15.9k obo.

How many hours are on the BX24?

You need to weigh total cost of BX24 will all PKG accessories vs BX25 new Price plus all PKG accessories you would plan to purchase.

What is the intended use of the BX on your property?
Do you require all the attachments being offered with the BX24?, If you were to purchase a new BX25 with only the attachments you require what would the out the door price be?

We have been extremely happy with our BX25 .. great little work horse. But if one of it's primary purposes would be to clear the amount of snow you indicating (four houses with 100"+ driveways and also the 1/3 mile lane that they sit on) I personally would be looking at something a bit larger.

Can the 25 do it ? sure - but a larger tractor could do it much more efficiently.

JMHO

If all you have in mind are a few projects that you can do with a FEL and BH, and plan to resell, then go for the BX-23, otherwise I'd buy new with the warranty.

the 24 has 240 and the 23 has 310.

Had to look and see you are in Vermont.

I have been doing this route with MUCH less tractor and built a custom 318 to handle this.

I could actually use all the attachments, but no way could I afford to buy them new.

I would love a new BX25.

With no more hours between the two, I would jump all over that BX23.:fing32: 10K for a loader and backhoe sounds really good, especially with that low amount of hours.
I would agree, but seems the neighbor isn't ready to sell yet, or so I gathered from his first post?:trink40:

Start leaving new tractor literature in your neighbor's mailbox...

To add a little on the curved backhoe, it's a little better for reaching over obstacles to dig or pick things up (say with a thumb). For example, if you were picking up rocks or digging holes while extending the hoe over a curb or rock wall, the curved boom will give you slightly better access.

Yep, I would have bought it by now if he was ready.

The Loaded BX24 may be out right now as I found a low hour BX1800 with a 54" deck for $5k locally. Looks clean and has 550hrs.

Im going to look at it next week if I can get time off work.

With an 1800, your starting to really limit yourself with accessories you can handle. If if I remember correctly the 1800 PTO claims only about 12-13 HP.

I was looking at the BX1800 mainly for cutting the grass and leaf pickup.

Its probably overkill for my 1.5 acre lawn, but I could build a killer clam shell bagger and make leaf cleanup a breeze.

I have a lot of trees and the leaves will get 10-12" deep if I dont pick them up bi weekly.
