In a case of "while Im at it"s, the 19.9 is gonna be moderately disassembled this Sunday. My clutch spring fell off and Ive had a rough time reconnecting it. The whole underside of the tractor is covered in oil and dirt and needs to be washed. So I will be removing the grille and engine, and possibly the dashboard. I see that the clutch spring is held on by a cotter pin, dont really like that. I plan on replacing that with a small eye bolt and a heavier duty spring. While I have the engine out, I will also be replacing the clutch bushing and drive belt. The 16 pops wheelies, thats my gauge. 19.9 doesnt, so therefore, the 19.9's clutch is NOT good enough :D

Should be pretty fun, Ill keep you posted

Should be alot of fun when you get it back together lol

Yeah the goal isnt necessarily to pop wheelies, thats just how I test it :)

My 19.9 does wheelies too! Are you going to give her a fresh coat of paint while she's apart? Mine came out really good I think. I just used automotive rattle can paint. I think they were called quick silver metallic and onyx black.
So far the paint's holding up really well. Good luck on the clean up Hugh.

Im thinking about it, we shall see what the funds allow

Sounds like the 19.9 clutch spring is a lot like the SS/18 as far as the cotter pin is concerned. The cotter pin can show signs of wear over time. The clutch spring on the SS/18 could be removed with a pair of locking pliers.

Well I got a lot of good work done tonight. In two hours, I:
-removed the front grille
-removed the engine
-removed the steering wheel
-removed the dashboard

The tractor is down to a rolling frame, ready to go to the car wash to be power washed tomorrow or later this week. Gonna get my eye bolt and spring this week, and if I can get a belt and bushing, it might be back together this week.

Pics to come.

Thats a lot of progress. You got lucky on the steering wheel? Looking forward to pics.

The PO added about 4" of pipe to the steering shaft. The wheel comes off with one bolt, literally 10 seconds to un bolt it just like anything else.

Looks a bit grubby, but all in all pretty good. Clean non-greasy equipment is so much nicer to work on isn't it?

Yeah it sucks cause anytime I want to adjust the steering or brakes or anything its just CAKED in that stuff. Gotta get it clean again.

While I have the engine out, Im gonna check it out. I know the 16 leaks a little bit out of the back cylinder, my 18 did too, Ill check it out and see whats up.

Wow, That buggy sure is dirty! I never realized how filthy mine was until I tore mine down. I filled half of a coffee can of the greasy sludgy filth. I think mine was so dirty because the oil pan gasket leaked for a long time. I used GUNK engine degreaser to clean my engine and frame and it work super. I just let it soak for about 30 minutes and pressure washed it.

Degreaser is definitely the way to go on the clean up.Good luck with it Hugh.
