Valve body rebuilds

After searching all over the internet, I noticed that there were quite a few places that rebuild, repair or even completely redo valves. Some of them can even reproduce out of production parts. Has anyone ever done this? While I am sure it isn't cheap, neither is trying to find parts for an ancient backhoe?

I see that they can re-chrome the valves themselves, replace poppets and just do almost anything as long as they have the core or original part?? Any thoughts?

Ive never had it done, but Ive looked around also. I have a real leaker in my 580ck, and its GOTTA come out soon. I dread pulling all those hoses off!!!

This makes 2 of us, Lol! At almost every site, they claim that it is 50% less than buying new parts. If I can have my stuff professionally rebuilt on a unit that I can not get new, why wouldn't I take advantage of that?

I see your name is Ingersoll. Does that mean you have one of their little backhoes? If you do have one, how do you like it?

Do you suspect a bad valve or spool or is it just leaking badly?

The valve block on my 3444 is pretty leaky but I suspect/am hoping that new o-rings and backup washers are going to sufficiently address the issue. The parts manual for the 3121 hoe is kind enough to list the dimensions of all the o-rings so those are easy to get. Also, I THINK Hy Capacity's part # HH388208 is a new manufacture correct replacement 2000 psi pilot relief valve.

As my wife says 'It's a backhoe; It's going to leak.' I want to prove her wrong!

Hy-Capacity is a manufacturer/re-manufacturer of ag parts. I think you can only order their parts thru a dealer. Their website will come right up if you search for it on the net but the website seems locked down and primarily for dealers. (Looks like there are several dealership sources that come up as well.)

I removed and cleaned up my pressure relief valve without removing the valve block. Took me over an hour to get the new o-ring and backup washer in...I have pretty long and skinny fingers and a lot of patience or it would not have been possible to put a new o-ring/backup washer in without removing the valve body.

After putting on a new front pump the hoe now seems to have enough 'oomph' so I'm not planning to replace the pressure relief unit at this time.

I have a serious leak coming from the valve body for the hoe. I also have a leak from somewhere on top of the swing shaft (and the shaft is sitting a 1/2 inch lower than it should be?). When I have the boom all the way out and try to lower it slowly, it kind of bangs and makes the entire tractor bounce back and forth like a see-saw. If I just shove the handle all the way front, it drops straight down without an issue. I have to fix it though, as there is no way I can run this thing safely and properly without being able to work the boom slowly.
