I just bought 2 1963 IH Cub Cadets,1 running 1 not running, no attachments, and both painted. The running one(the one with the decals and muffler stack) is a good machine but it smokes like a wood stove.
The second one we got not running, and after a few hours of trying to find out why no spark we found the wire going to the points was grounding out on the points cover. We got that one fired up but it knocks bad, and the oil has metal shavings in it.
So I need to figure out what I want to do with these beasts. I have a 9HP Yanmar diesel, should I work towards getting that into one of them? Rebuild the 7 HP Kohler? Sell them off at an auction? What do you guys think?
Pics of the second one comming.

The second one is also solid, it came with the factory grill, hood, oil bath air cleaner, and the factory S/G with oil cups condition unknown but it does spin. Most the linkages on this Cub were out of adjustment, like the brakes stopping the clutch from ever grabbing because it was engaging way before the clutch, a carb cleaning, shine points up, remove paint at grounds fun stuff like that. Also got duel ags in the deal..
Pics not loading right now for some security reason? Ok I will post pics later.

Nice Originals! Keep them and get the motors fixed when ya can. No shame for a motor that needs rebuilt giving the tractor's age. And the motors are rebuildable to boot! Thanks, joe

Nice looking tractor and I would rebuild the motors and keep them. slkpk

With the help of this sites admins, I am once again able to post pics enjoy. Thanks Tx Ken
I think you guys are right about keeping them I am going to work towards rebuilding stickers (smokey) and maybe repower the second one ( Knocks a lot) with the Yanmar. Does anybody know of a recall on the K161 7hp, where they were repowering the CCO with K181 8hp engines? I have no engine numbers to work with so how can I tell if these engines are 7hp or 8hp, any external differences?

Here are the pics that gave me a hard time uploading. This is knocks a lot, and BTW it looks goofey but thats the most comfy seat on a tractor I've ever sat in, it's like a recliner and lays back slightly. So now I can catch up on sleep while I mow.

I loaded vids to you tube smokeys vid is, 63 cub cadet original start run drive SMOKEY
Knocks a lot vid is, 63 cub cadet original start engine knock
I don't know how to make a link sorry for the inconvience. Please comment, thanks

I checked out your vid on the small diesels. I'd definitely drop one in an "O" - especially since you have two of them. It'd be cool to do, and it'd be different. Although it'd probably freak out a few of the more dedicated purists...

Thanks for the links and comments Dave, I have already found my engine adaptor plate for Knocks a lot to get that Yanmar, its 2" wider than the O frame (im going to try to document the repower, we'll see how that turns out). I want a tractor worthy of the diesel, and the O is worthy. Smokey is going to get the rebuild a $60 rebuild kit and $50 rings, and some elbow grease. Smokey will be the trailer queen of my fleet of tractors not that it's immaculate but it's the best looking that I own, knocks a lot will be the puller. Now I have the tractors its all about time and money.
The factory engine will be stored and not trashed.

I have made progress on this project, it's currently on hold but im going to complete (Knocks a lot) when I get my new pully. My other thread is Yanmar repower, 63 Cub Cadet original WITH PICS. It doesn't hold a candle to your repower projects but it is very fun, and it keeps this CCO in service.

:trink40: It's still a sweet repower project though! I am picking up a Cub 123 this weekend and this will be the frame for my mini 4020 build. I'm going to install my 7hp Hatz Diesel in it. I hope it's enough engine for it. I'm going to go check out your Knocks a lot thread now. Very cool man!
