Hey guys just wanted to show you my design for my 48" Gannon Earthcavator clone. I had a post earlier this year explaining my plan to start my own impliment line but it has a title that has no significance and is misleading. Just wanted to show you the design so far. It is made to be able to be used with a sleeve hitch, sears 3pt, cat0 or cat1 setup. still need to make the lock handle and the scarifers. What do you think?

second pic is for comparison.

Sadly no. I dont have a mig yet so build is at least 6 months off. I have to save some money after putting all I had in my 400 which still isn't done. I have to finalize the design and make my logo(unless you want a clean one) I have to find a good place to get the steel cheap, and do some testing, and design the hitches. if you are using sleeve hitch I don't know how heavy the 48" will be but it should be light enough. I don't have an actual gannon to go off so I am just doing how I would do it. It could cost me $200 just to build one.

I like it. I think there might be a few people interested if the price was reasonable. The Earthcavators are tough to find.

Where are you at in VA? There are a couple options for steel if your in the NOVA area but sadely no steel will be "cheap" unless you buy in very large quantities.

I have been going to a place in Mananas that is better than the first place I went They were expensive and I think the material for one 48" earthcavator without the hitch would be around $200-$250

Sounds like BMC metals, they have decent prices and will deliver, I have a local comapny down in Fredericksburg that I usually get my steel from, Dominion Steel. I know the owner and I get a lot of drops from them when I only need a little stock of something. Those are the only two places around that really have decent proces without having to make a huge order!

I have the 32" model.....I bought mine for $500......a lot, but I wanted it and it fits the Bolens 1000 I have.

Just wondering how you are going to deal with the proprietary aspect of the clone, when Woods owns the Gannon line, now? You'd have to have at least a 10% design change to make it yours, like they do in the boat manufacturer world, when they do the molds designs for a line of boats.

You'll want to find a shop near you that has a CNC plasma cutter, it'll be cheaper in the long run to have them cut out the various pieces vs. cutting them by hand. A good programmer can also help you get the most from each sheet of steel to minimize waste.

The teeth are not positioned the same. Also there is a different hitch system on mine, and I have different height and the pivot I am using will be different and grease-able.

Please send me your email. Ubber, your inbox is full. I have a JD X740 and am interested in fabricating a 48in earthcavator like attachment that I can use with my JD quick hitch. I have a local welder and might be interested in purchasing plans or unassembled components. I am in NC, probably not that far away. Good luck.

Might want to investigate who owns the rights to the earthcavator and make sure that you won't be doing any "patent" infringement. Not trying to turn you off the idea Eric but don't want to see you get your clone too close that they can come after you!
