My 28" snapper seems to cut the grass a little to short. Wondering if there is an adjustment that will raise the deck a little more. I have it on the highest setting.

I'd also like to learn some height setting tips:

How high should the threaded "chain adjusters" be above the "adjustable swivel" ? What it the factory default setting for that?

(I didn't see that mentioned in the dealer setup instructions.)

"pappy's" series 18 has another adjustment than our later mowers, the height adjuster assembly is also adjustable. I don't know if it helps that much, though. There's the nut labeled"only to be adjusted by a trained Snapper Technician" I've never tried to adjust mine beyond leveling. The way I read it, the front "attach" is only adjustable from side to side(and not even that on some mowers)you level the front and then adjust the chains to match. On the ser 16 check page 17 of the OM.

IF you look under the pan covering the pulley, etc. you will see a threaded rod running front to back with a turnbuckle in it, well a threaded yoke. Loosen locking nut, adjust this then adjust rear chains to level.

I looked real close for this. I did not see anything like that. Maybe the series 16 does not have that?

As I said the illustration 4.12 on page 17 of the OM,also page 20 in the Parts Manual, item 2 rod to item31 pivot and items 44 and 25 nut and washer.
I see what your talking about now. The warnings make me not want to adjust that. I wonder what how much it would change things? Would it throw the belts off and out of alignment?

Hello. Something else to consider is tire pressure. A low tire/s will compress some when you add your personal weight to the mower. A low tire will look fine unloaded but when we climb aboard most low tires will squat down 1/4" to 1/2". This may seem to be a small amount but every little bit can add up. Balding tires can add to the problem also. The loss of tread thickness will lower the mower some. A low tire puts extra strain on the mower as well. Just think how your vehicle that you drive reacts when it's tires are low the same can be said for a mower. Just on a smaller scale. If the tires have been replaced along the way the new diameter of said tires "may" be different than the originals. A level check/adjustment may be in order.

HOPE MY $0.02 HELPS

I doubt that adjusting the rod length would do anything permanent to the mower,Although I would check every thing again, before mowing. I would measure the end of the rod protruding from the nut, or just count the threads so it can be restored if the adjustments do something bad, also check the adjustment on the "deck height lever" at the bottom of page 17 OM.

Plenty of air in the tires. I checked the last night. I don't think I will mess with the factory setting. I don't think it will do a lot.
I will just keep my yard looking like the infield instead of the outfield.
