My 46" Deck is rougher than I had thought...

My 46" Deck is rougher than I had thought...(with pics)

I pulled it out and was going to strip it bare for sand blasting...but its got some really nasty spots on it.

One of them I knew about, the rest were hidden under paint.

Not sure if I can save this one, wonder if new shells are still available?

One of the worst areas appears to be from where the tensioner spring vibrated through.

yeah, the only hole I was aware of is the big one on the far right of the top picture. I had plans of cutting out the bad section and welding in a new one..but now I dont know.

well, really the vast majority of damage is mostly all in flat sections. Flat sectional repairs are not bad at all, and the bigger the better. Its still strong around the spindles somehow.

Ill get it stripped bare tomorrow and start planning...

Ouch. That would test ones fabrication skills. But for $1090 I'd be tempted to have a go at it. Reminds me of a Bolens mulching walk behind mower I had in the early 1980's. Always started with one or two pulls. One day I put my foot on the deck and as I pulled the cord my foot went through the deck...it was that rusted but the paint hid how bad it was. Luckily that day it didn't start on the first pull.

Ive pretty much GOT to fix it...cant afford a new deck..

My 39 deck was too far gone to fix, so I found a nice one on ebay for $200. It needed a couple of spindles, but my old ones were still good so I swapped them out.

If you keep your eyes open I bet you can find a nice 46 deck for a good price.

Oh joy....

Turned on my compressor this morning and as I walked away it started humming then it popped...blew a cap. Put on a new cap and now it just humms and tries to turn the pump. pump isnt stuck or anything.

So I brought out my little spare compressor...got the blades off but all 9 of the spindle bolts were rusted out. Broke out the angle grinder and so far Ive got 2 of 3 spindles off. Grinder got so hot I could hardly hold it.
