I am trying to get some new belts on this old mama, and the ID plate has fallen off.

Anyone know what the belts or model number are just by looking at it?

I can't get anywhere without the model.

Thanks in Advance.

Are you looking for drive or deck belts? The model # will be 46???x??. The x?? we don't need to worry about, that is just vendor id. The drive belt and both the primary and secondary belts for the deck should be fairly common and interchangeable with like year models. If that is a Briggs powered machine could you post the code number? That should be somewhere on the engine shroud, and with that number we can get a year for the tractor and go from there. If I were to guess I would say 1993-94 looks to be about right. The most common drive belt is a 37x87.

Are you sure that's your mower model #?

What year is that?

You can usually find the model # on the back.

If that tag has somehow fallen off..You may be able to identify the year by the engine numbers if the engine is original.

Or is that the engine code you posted?

Ok, the tractor is a 1996 or possibly even a 1997 as the engine was built in 1996, assuming that is the original power plant. Let me see if I can dig something up.

Ok, after you click the link below, click on all the links that begin with 46 for the model # [example 46???x??] and that say "lawn tractor" afterwards. You will need to click until you find the match for your machine. It may seem like a bit much but some of the models are duplicates. As an example, all the following are the same machine...

46111x8a
46111x78B
46111x43D

While they may seem like 3 different models, they are the same exact machine, just sold by different retailers. If all the numbers to the left of the x match, it's the same machine, so just look at one file and skip the others..... Hope that make sense. Hopefully there is a match........

If you have no luck there you can check here...

http://www.partsandservice.com/html/Murray/lt/

if there is a {12,0} after the model, schematics are on line. If there is a {0,12} the schematics are not on line.

same idea, the model will start with 46.......

I'm doing a little guessing here but judging from the similarities of all the 46" decks of those years I would guess that theses are your belts.

37x66
37x69

I am still researching this but I think this is going to do it..

BRB

Edit: it seams some of the Hydrostatics may use a 37x70 in place of the 37x69

Even if you id the belts, do yourself the favor of locating and downloading the proper schematics and model # for your machine. It will save you trouble down the road.

Take a photo of the other side of the machine to be sure so I can have a look at the shifter setup.
It's a foot pedal controlled hydro.

To the OP - I normally do the leg work for members and id the machines, but this time of year it's work, sleep, work, sleep. Time is tight, no complaints though.........

I realize that since its hydrostatic its going to have a pedal on the right side. However there are subtle differences sometimes between models. Such as The headlights differ in the same years eliminating some models as yours. Some are not hydro, This eliminates more models of the 1996 year. Process of elimination is sometimes the best way to determine a model if you don't have the Model#. The more images you have the easier it is to determine an exact model. Right?

On some units, mainly the late 90's Scotts, the hydro control is on the fender. I was simply trying to supply the information you were asking about, not knowing when the PO would be able to respond.........Absolutely no offense was intended.

None taken. I would however like a picture of the other side. ;)

There are a lot of 1996 models 30 or so. So every little bit helps.

BROKENHIP,

Here is another site to check. Check both the 1996 and 1997 46" lawn tractors. In case I was not clear enough before, if you come across several model numbers that look similar like these...

42917x6A - Lawn Tractor (1996)
42917x6B - Lawn Tractor (1996)
42917x6C - Lawn Tractor (1996)
42917x8A - Lawn Tractor (1996)
42917x8B - Lawn Tractor (1996)

....You just need to click on one of them. If the number in red is the same, the tractors are identical. The x?? number is just retailer info. Hopefully I'm not over explaining.....

Just for the heck of it, in the mid 90's, Wal Mart was the major retailer of Murray equipment. I'm not sure if this was a chain wide policy, but I have seen several tractors from Wally World that had the Murray model number and the Wal Mart store number engraved into the metal under the seat. This was a security measure and was done at the store level, not at the Murray plant, so it's literally just scrawled into the metal by whoever was told to do it that day. It's a long shot but worth a look.

I checked quickly at Parts Tree and if I had to guess, I would say at you have a 46900B or 46901. I wish they gave the Briggs info but they do not - maybe the Parts and Service sight will. Again, I just looked quickly, so give them a good look over and compare to your machine.
