Hey all,
It's been a while since I have been on the forum here and I would just like to say this is the first I have been on the JD section of the forum as I am a converted (not to sure about it yet) JD owner. two days ago, Miss Bessy decided to be difficult. seeing as I am attending to about 12 lawns weekly right now and still in school, enough was enough. I had been doing some window shopping for new mowers as I figured it was time I just started fresh with something "un-used". I decided on the D110. its hydrostatic, and has a nice sized 42" deck, perfect to run my business with.
Upon arrival at Home Depot, I walked into the store, and into the outdoors section. because they have some variety, naturally I looked around a little bit. but low and behold, I chose the D110 as I had online because its about the maximum I could bear to spend.
I payed for my new D110, and bought the bagger attachment, went throught the checkout and brought the trailer around to await my new mower whom I proudly named Darla. Darla Deere was lifted off the stack of mowers infront of the store, and rolled onto my ATV trailer sideways as I have with my other mower time and time again. I tied her down snuggly and off we went.
We had been on the road a grand total of about 4 minutes, when my mother says a few words I haven't heard her say too often, and she immediately pulled over our 4runner. i turn around to see my bran new D110, hoodless...
Naturally I freaked out, gathered all the pieces i could find, inspected the damage and called Home Depot. we brought it back, and after working our way up the ranks of employees, managed to get them to agree to replace the mower (THANKYOU MOM!). Darla Deere was again on the trailer, facing the front and tied down with twice as many straps insuring that nothing will ever move.
Driving even slower than the first time (which brings us about 15km/h below the speedlimit, we crawled home.
Darla Deere is now functioning at what I will call is probably 85 to 90% happy. she cuts the grass nice, and bags well as long as the grass isnt super long.
Pros of Darla...
- starts and runs, every time
- looks good
- mows quite nicely, virtually no long grass left in her wake
- looks good
- allows me to complete tasks quicker,
- and, looks good.
Cons of Darla...
- bagger fills quickly
- tongue of trailer is now too short to pull with a full bagger installed
- I'm afraid to leave the hood open for any length of time and find it necessary to hold it the entire time
- feels sorta cheap in construction.
overall rating I would say maybe 7.5 of 10. They aren't built like they used to be...
