I just bought a used LX172 last night. At the time I went to look at it, it was being jumpstarted and would not fire up the Blades without being connected to the booster battery. I brought it home and tried to charge the battery but it would not take a charge, so today I bought a new battery for it. Camehome, unloaded the tractor off the trailer and went to put it into gear and it stalled, tried to fire the blades and it stalled. With me sitting on the seat and the clutch and brake depressed fully I can not get it to go into gear or engage the blades. It all worked ok short of the dead battery when it was loaded last night, the PO drove it onto my trailer. What could be going on with it and where should I look? I tried sourcing out any bad wires but did not find anything.

Thanks

Who said anything about bypassing the switch? I am needing the know how it should work in order to test it with my meter. If i get a continuity test with the switch closed then i need to look further into the wires...correct? Should I see power or ground at one of the wires that go to the switch?

Still need to get out to test it tonight after work, just need to know how and what to test for.

Hi Sewerat,

Just for reference for ya, here's the info from TractorData.com for the LX172, and the image and parts list for the wiring harness for (I think) the 172 (hard to tell, there's a fair number listed in the JD parts catalog. #23 is the Seat switch...
