I know that the STX 30 is not the most glamourous lawn tractor that John Deere made, but when I saw it last fall sitting in the weeds while at a yard sale I had to ask if it was for sale. I guy said yes and I picked it up for $75.00. The tractor was in ok shape but I was happy that the hood was there and not broke. Got it home and got it running after cleaning the carb and was happy with the was the one blade cut the grass. So I decided this spring to tear he down and bring it back to looking like new.

I got the engine in it and got it all wired up this morning and going to finish putting the seat and a few other things, and start on the mower deck. Hope to be able to mow the yard with it this weekend. Now that it is looking like new I might have to give the other tractors and paint job. I also have 2 John Deere 165's and a John Deere 160 in the garage and a John Deere 70 at my dad's that is all orginal.

Looking very good!

Very nice job! I'm hoping to get an STX30 from my grandfather in the near future. It's in pretty good shape given it's age and amount of use. However, it does need to be stripped down and redone. Did you repaint the entire machine at home or just clean it up and reassemble? Any details you can give regarding your process you used would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing all the great pictures.

I did all the cleaning and painting at home. Before you get ready to paint make sure that you do a good job prep job. The cleaner you can get it and the less defects before paint the better it will turn out.
