Update on my new (replacement) x500, and a question

I was able to get some time on it today and I'm very impressed. The best way I can describe it is "natural" -- it does what it does easily and well.

I took two trips out to the fence line hauling yard debris in the polycart, and it worked like a charm.

On the way back I mowed a strip for the first time -- cut it a bit too close, I'll have to adjust the deck height.

Everything seems to be in ship-shape. I do have a couple of nitpicky questions from other owners though:

1. My parking break squeaks and groans when the pedal is actuated (sounds like a squeaky spring). Anyone else have that? I'm assuming it may wear off as the spring gets use.

2. The ignition hole seems to be getting scratched up from the key. It's not a big deal, just curious if that is the way it is or if I'm too quick with the key.

3. On start up the engine seems to "hunt" or "surge" up and down for a 10 or 20 seconds. Then it is consistent. Anyone else?

Thanks,
hpf

My liquid cooled X520 "hunts" or "surges" especially @ freezing. I don't worry about it, it straightens itself out and knows what it is doing.
Don't notice the other 2.

I'm glad you are finding the new X500 to your liking. I can't comment on two of your questions but have to say Wow that is really inspecting things closely. I haven't looked at my ignition key hole more closely than to know where to put the key and can't say if it is scratched or not. I'm guessing it the key is aligned with the hole when inserted there won't be much abuse to the area. Not aligned would = more scratches.

Do you mean to the small round black area that is the ignition switch/mount or the plastic around it that is part of the panel? If the panel then maybe an eye test and new glasses are needed.:hide:

Katt and slkpk and bruce,

Thanks for the verification on the surging. It sounded normal to me but I wanted confirmation.

POENY,
 Yes, probably time for new glasses.

So -- anyone have a take on the parking break? I need someone to get down on their hands and knees with a stethascope pressed to the chassis and listen for the creak and groan I described while someone else pushes down the parking brake pedal. :thanku:

I have a 520, no kids so i leave the key init. 240hrs and no trouble but seat cracking mmmm well I very pleased with the unit and I looked at them all befor the purchase. Sometimes a puff of gray smoke-to rich at start up, but I now run unit at faster idel before shooting down and that seems to have ended smoke. At start up I leave throtle at low and just work the choke untill start. I let it warm up about 2 min before rolling it og the garage and then another 5 min before engaging work load-blade ect.

My parking brake squeels to about the last 1/3 of travel when locking it down. It did it since new but got a little louder during the winter, my guess is it just needs a good cleaning up underneath.

When I push the parking brake pedal on my X520 it squeaks. I sat on a brand new X720 at the dealer a few years back and it done the same thing. I guess it is the spring that attaches to the pedal that squeaks.
Oh my tractor also surges at idle when started.
