Allergic,

yes the pins used to hang the mower deck are long enough to go through the angle and still be functional.
I used flat washers to space the angle the entire length so as to compensate for the steering plate thickness. You may be able to see some in my pics.
I had a small kink already starting again, and this has cured it. The tractor rides much more solid and with little flex. I havent started on the rear section yet.
I just wished AYP/Husky Craftsman would have looked at these issues a little closer, but I assume out of all the GT's being sold very few are actually used with ground engaging equipment.
Thanks for the clarification. I don't plan on any ground engaging but the one twist I've felt so far was startling. I figure an ounce of prevention . . . My first GT6000 is currently in the garage awaiting it's replacement. Wouldn't run longer than 10 min. When that gets here Wed I think I'll start measuring.

It looks like there may be enough clearance to fit a cross piece of angle at the front and maybe just behind the steering gear, what's your thought?

What is the big J shaped piece that hangs off the frame on the right side? Did you replace it after the upgrade?

What do you think of removing the transaxle bracket and grinding enough space for the angle to pass all the way back? Would void the warranty I guess.

Sorry for all the questions.

Allergic, I try to find a picture for the piece that I made to connect across the front of the tractor like you mentioned, sorry I don’t have a dimension for that piece. As far as the piece with the J shape, I have no ideal what it’s for, so I didn’t reattach it. When I was fabricating my frame, I believe I was pondering the ideal to extend my channel all the way back, but can’t remember why I didn’t.

Thanks Mike, I will be adding that front crossmember.
Snow season is wrapping up so I'll have some time between springthaw and grass cutting. Tractor can be tied up for a while. Allergic same thing here that j bracket has no use so just removed it. I made 2 rear crossmembers before the transaxle bracket, but I also bolted the side rails to tubing and angle that connects to the transaxle bracket.
I will also be added more metal to the rear frame, I havent decided whether to use 1"square tubing or angle.

I love seeing the ingenuity of members of this forum. Nice work on beefing up GT.

should have Do you intend to remove and paint all the reinforcements?

BTW, in your first post I see a nut and washer in the hitch hole. What is your intent there?

Yes the frame reinforcement was pulled back-off and painted. The nut and bolt was to aid in holding my rear frame upgrade.

Folks who attempt this upgrade before warn there is some difference between the Hydro=Gear and the TuffTorg, their a member who learned the hard way, measure twice cut once.

Now if I could find a way to beef up my damaged front wheel. http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=186941
