As you can see from the pics, it's not too bad off. It has some issues. The steering wheel is broken. The seat is kind of torn up. Definite wear in the forward/reverse lever linkage.

As you can see in the one pic, the previous owner's answer to lack of power. Wire it for full throttle operation.

He also left me a going away present. When he rolled it from his yard to his driveway, he rolled it right through some dog****, which was deposited on the left front and back wheels. It's visible in the left side engine pic. That was hosed off before rolling it into the shed.

It's supposed to be colder the next few days. Hoping for a decently warm day(50 degrees) to get the cleaner and pressure washer out to see what's really under all that grime.

Nice haul, John. Great photos! Definitely a good fixer-upper, but a good solid place to start. I noticed the "mud" in the wheel treads and immediately recognized the source.

Deck looks pretty solid, and you have the assist kit too. With all the other accessories that tractor came with, you can't go wrong!

A couple of days before my latest purchase (812), my wife had been out shopping. When she found out about my latest Gravely and "started", I reminded her of her recent purchases, she said, "but it was all 30% off". I just said I spent less than you did, I got it for 40% less than asking price, and when I am done using it, I will get my money back. 'nuff said.

She really tries hard not to complain about my hobby. I'll admit to having more Gravelys than I can operate at once, and maybe a couple more than I really need, but she always knows where to find me, and they always look and run better than when they came home. And I will thin the herd, someday.

Maybe a small dog, but definitely a big smell.;)

As for the tractor, I did manage to get her pressure washed off just as it was getting dark. Pics will follow tomorrow. Stay tuned.............
I mow my neighbor's yard but I really dislike all the dog poo that gets stuck in the wheels. The last mow of the season, I had to ask him what the heck he'd been feeding that dog, his yard was mined like the N Korea / S Korea border.

Wow, that's even got a lift hitch on it! Why couldn't I be so lucky?? Someday I will find one to fit my 16-G.

I suppose the dog dirt is a sign that this Gravely will bring you good fortune!!
If you are referring to the bar at the top, I believe that is a support arm for the bagger hopper. And as for the good fortune, we'll have to wait and see on that.

Haha I thought the same thing until I looked closer.

Stuck to the tires is no big deal, I hate when it gets under the deck and into the bagger and bins. Most land scapers around here mow around it. Ed

Well guys, here are some pics of the 8122 pressure washed. Boy, was it filthy. I only wish I had removed the wheel weights from the front wheels. There was still alot of dirt behind them too. That will have to wait for another day.

Yours truly washing off the grime. Nothing a hot hose mounted to a pressure washer couldn't handle.

It's always nicer/easier to inspect and work on something when it's clean.

Removing the engine. This time I got smart and used the jack. Last time I removed an engine, I ended up dropping the gear and woodruff key into the transmission. ****, I hate when that happens.

PTO still has lots of life left in it.

No water in the oil either. That's a good sign.

Fender pan needs some welding work. Lots of cracks around the seat mounting holes. Apparently a common problem with this series pan.

Got it for $250. The previous owner called me after I emailed him twice, once on the evening of the day he listed it and once the following morning at 3:50 am. He called me at 9:30 that morning and said it was still available but he was having a guy come look at it in the afternoon. I told him I could pay him by noon and pick it up the following day. So that's how I sealed the deal.

Here's a page Don may be interested in. Shows work he had done back in '01(?). Don can compare parts and labor prices then and now. Following pages shows parts replaced. Sorry for the lousy scan of the work order. Played with the settings to try to enhance it. Negative is slightly better.
