and some minor stering ajustments

the tractor does run now but it will only stay running with full choke maybe the carb just needs a realy good tune up I am not sure
I am wondering if you have any idea how much it would cost to fully restore a bolens 800
the tractor is not very rusted at in fact there is not even a dent on it but the paint is realy chiping of so I realy need the name of the white they put on the hood and fenders and the brown that is on the frame

Welcome to the Bolens forum. I've done a couple of tube frame tractors and I only did what was needed but took the entire thing apart and off the frame. I use Rust-oleum spary paint on mine. The white works well on the 1970's era Bolens, not too sure about the old 800's but I know someone here will chime on on that. Good luck with your restore it's lots of fun.

The first thing I would do would be rebuild or clean the carb really good and adjust it. It sounds like you aare getting to much air into the engine and that is why it runs only with full choke.

As for the restoration the cost all depends on how far you want to go and how much you are willing to spend. Such as do you just want a nice looking tractor to use or do you want a trailer queen.

I refurbished my bolens and made it look good but I went the chea way and used spray paint and I use it as a working tractor.

A 1964 model 800 should have a wisconsin S7D. Chances are the briggs is from the same era but not original. Is it electric start?

I had a similar problem on my 5017H (running only with choke on), turned out to be the float on the carb, made her run lean. It was a pain to adjust, bending those little tabs, but she is again purring like a kitten.
