Im getting ready to start my first build with a buddy and I see so many people saying cubs are the way to go but my stepdad says Sears are the same if not better. I think I'm gonna go with cub but since I'll be pulling 950 and 1050 class mostly

depends on which models... the early Cubs were popular because their inline clutch/driveshaft, in theory, was considered to be better than a belt driven setup.... but that has since been proven wrong on many occasions. The stock Cub clutch/driveshaft are not up to the task and aftermarket parts are very expensive.

Ok so if I were to pull with a diesel should I go with a sears, one of those ones with the high low shifter. I can't remember their name

with Sears I would go with a GT series cause I think they are a bit heavier than the SS or Suburban models but really you can build pretty much any older tractor to pull.... I pulled with an MTD960 for many years quite successfully, that has a 16hp briggs single and 4 speed Peerless transaxle... you dont need a hi/low trans to pull... you wont use low range anyway
