RE: dash mount...

My Kawasaki Mule 2500 had a fixed (not on the filler cap, which is on a pipe) float style gauge on top of the tank. The tank is on the passenger side of the machine, and I was always forgetting to check it.

I got an electronic retrofit kit from Essex MFG in TX that adds an electronic sensor stick in place of the float, and a dash mount gauge and bezeled bracket.

It should be easy to retrofit something like this to other machines/tanks. You'd just have to have a flat tank top, cut the hole for the probe, and drill 3 holes for the screws, and then mount the gauge somewhere.

Thanks for sharing this ericdube
I ordered one (ebay) and it fits my 2206 just fine.
I'd been filling my tank before each use because once the cap is off to check the level, why not.
This will be a lot nicer!
Thanks again!
Jim

I'll have to see if I can get one for my 1440, even though it has a low fuel light, a marvel of Mtd engineering.

I only had 14 hours on my 2544 and ran out of gas twice! Got my new cap a few days ago. Hopefully I will start looking at the cap now!!

Got my new Kelch gas cap gauge and it works great.
The only con, if there has to be one, is that the shape of the gas tank is such that when filled up with leaving a bit of space for expansion the gauge shows 3/4 full. You can fill it up to show full but gas is within an inch of the top of the threads. This is only a minor fault.
At the other end, it shows empty when you still have enough gas to finish your round and get back to the garage.
Highly recommended, thanks ericdube.

Hmm.... Maybe the twist in the middle is slightly off? Mine seems to be dead-on full when it's any where near the top of the tank but not overfilled. Maybe try tweaking the twist some?

As for the empty position, I can tell you that's by design. Kelch specifies a 1/2" gap minimum from the bottom of the tank. This will result in having gas in the tank even when it shows "empty". The other option would have been to make the gauge length longer, but when I did the measurements for it I just followed the manufacturer's recommendation and designed it to be ~1/2" short of the bottom of the tank.

Glad you like it.

I figured Dean was going to do a listing for the 2500's after talking with him. Even the price is cheaper than I paid! I guess that's the price for being first! :)

It's a nice gas cap - hopefully, others will benefit from it.
Just picked one up. Will come in handy when my wife mows and I am not there and she runs out of gas on the far side of our 3 acres.
