x500 developed a miss and actually backfired today while blowing that load of fluffy snow in the wind! machine actually stalled when I idled it down! shut it down and had a look at the bra, it had dropped down an inch exposing the upper hood vent! popped the hood open and I could see water on the plug wires and in the top of the flywheel! I assume it was ingesting some snow as well!
I adjusted the bra and let it heat soak for a couple minutes and finished the yard without further problem. I think the bra needs a strap added on top to hold it up! anybody had this issue!

Is this a tractor wardrobe malfunction?

Glad you got it fixed. Nothing more disheartening than machine running issues, especially in the cold.

Real fine light snow, usually found when temps are around zero used to cause me problems in my truck plowing snow when the wind was blowing the right direction. That light fluffy stuff would get in the engine bay, get sucked into the air box and actually stop up the air filter.

yes it is a wardrobe malfunction, that's hilarious! I might name her janet! this is the first reasonable size powder snowfall this year 5" all the previous has been less than 3". I was a little disappointed that when I actually needed to clear it acted up! I've never had an issue before with the bra on,maybe the elastic is getting weak or I installed the velcro fasteners one slot too low on the grill! I try to keep the bra flush with the front of the hood or I get a big buildup of ice between the top of bra and the hood which melts and runs down on the pulleys and refreezes when parked!

the only tme I had an issue with truck plow in powder was with a belt driven plow pump, the belt would slip!

Why don't you use the X540 for snow duties. No bra required! ;)

I would think it's the same intake design and a bra required! the x540 gets a lot of hrs. just on grass duty. power steering and lift not needed for snow duty! I have bigger fronts to carry the blower higher on the x500 for snow duty!
the x500 is 08 with 450hrs. grass/leaf/snow at home
the x540 is 14 with 500hrs. grass/leaf only at the club!

Alas, with age, everything begins to sag. Even the best of bras can do only so much.;)

That fine blower powder will get into everything. Glad it was resolved by a little heat soaking.

Had a snowmobile back in late 70's that would stall from powdery snow on and in carb. I ran a flexible tube from the hot air discharge on the engine ,to the carb . Had it blowing on the side of the carb . never had a problem after that.

X540 had a different hood and no bra was ever offered or required with the water cooled engines. One of the advantages of that machine.
