Having a brain fart and didn't take a picture before disassembly.

Briggs Vanguard 350777 engine

What valve does the valve seal go on? Intake or exhaust? I think intake...

Help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you guys, much appreciated. Let's say someone got over zealous and installed it on the intake side, would it be a one time use part and said person would need a new one, or could it be just swapped?

It goes on intake side,no need for it on the exhaust,it sees no oil and that’s what the seal does, keeps the motor from sucking oil out of the crank case.

As mentioned above, seals on the exhaust valves are not required. There's always a slight possibility of oil leaking past the valve when the engine is off which could cause a slight puff of smoke when the engine is started if it drips past the open valve and into the cylinder.Jun 25, 20

That was my thought initially too, why would you seal the exhaust and not the intake, so I put it on the intake. BUT, reading the repair manual it clearly shows on the exhaust. Also, looking at the valve stems one is darker than the other.

Look at the face of the valve, big is intake, small is exhaust

Exhaust should be the lighter colored one, should show some burning and the dark one shows no heat bit dark from fuel and oil deposits

The exhaust should bolt to the head and intake will be connected via a rubber boot and round receptor

Post a picture of the front of the head where the ports are.

I first must say that I greatly appreciate and value all the advice you all have given me.

The exhaust valve just wasn't making sense, but looking at service manual it clearly shows it on exhaust, but in parts diagram it says exhaust but visually it is on the larger valve (intake). So confusing.

I have sifted through my pics and I think I caught it in a different picture! On the intake.

This engine has been neglected, it's dirty, the valves weren't adjusted, the carb a mess. I am using it as a learning process.

The manual specifically states 'exhaust side' on these engines.

For specific model reference Google may not be a reliable reference.

On your #2 post,33 is intake valve,if the parts say is exhaust ,it isinglass error, the BIG valve is always the intake

If it’s on the exhaust it would deteriorate very fast from the heat.
Onans are always on intake.
The seals job is to keep oil from being sucked into the cylinder.

Here’s a video on Briggs heads, clearly shows seal on intake.
