If you can find a tractor that has the rear PTO, and a three point hitch, tillers are fairly easy to come by. (around here, at any rate.....) But, to get those, you either need to get really lucky, or get a fair sized tractor, that normally comes with them.
So far with in a 2-3 hr drive (1 way) I’ve found;
Gt345 with tiller, mower, + items, $1400
wheel horse tiller, mower; $700
Jd210, tiller, front blade, mower, sleeve hitch; $2000
1 guy has a Simplicity and an Allis both with tillers;$1700 ea
Wheel horse 520, mower, tiller;$900
Simplicity brodmoore with 1 yr old motor with tiller;$850
Jd140, new carb, electric clutch(pto?), deck, mule drive (whatever that is) #33 tiller;$1500
Jd110 with mower, tiller, hub caps;$1400
Jd140 H3, bunch of repair/service, tiller;$800
Just have to decide.

Wow. The 140 H3 might be one to seriously consider....
Yep if it’s in running order it would be the cheapest, quickest way to a tiller. Keep in mind they quit making them in 1974, so it’s guaranteed to have issues with deferred maintenance at that price, but it’s pretty much a mechanical beast and most parts are still availiable. If it’s including the factory model 33 tiller, it does not use a 3PH to attach, but you can still add a 3PH if you want to use a plough or back blade, etc. The main difference in the 140 vs the 318-420 you’ve been posting is the 140 does not have power steering and the newer rigs do. The newer gas machines are all twin cylinder engines vs the 140‘s single. There’s more to it then that, but those, in my opinion, are the huge differences.

Here’s the post.

Sounds promising, doesn’t look terrible. I’d be concerned about how much it’s been ran without an air cleaner. Good way to dust the engine. It’s got bar tires in the rear, that’s a plus. Worth going to look at.

I’m mainly interested in getting something to till the garden with but you say the gt345 has power steering ?

Sorry, I made it sound like some of them from your list had power steering. I meant the 318 & 420 you pictured in previous posts have power steering. The GT235 and 210 do not, they are manual. I don’t know about the other brands you listed.

No need to apologize. You and the others have been a big help with your vast knowledge. I really appreciate all the input from everyone.
Now if any of you have questions about hvac, I have about 44 yrs behind me.

Dave, If your primary use will be for tilling, I wouldn't worry about power steering. Tilling is typically in a straight line with little or no turning. Let us know what you get. Bob

I think the 210 is waaay overpriced. Plus it’s Gear drive, not hydrostatic.

The 140 H1 seems pretty high too, but it is a more complete package. Are you ever going to mow with it, or just till? That may make your decision. You could always try to sell the deck if you don’t need it, but you won’t get the difference in price from the 800$ 140H3 + tiller combo. I think it’s the clear winner based solely on the descriptions. Have you gone to see any of them?

I might mow with it but probably not especially if I need to remove the tiller to install the deck. I’ve already got several other options to mow. So it looks like the h3. I have not seen either. They are both a little over 2 hrs away.
