Yes. They are the same tractor.

:ditto: The 38" single stage snowblower for the mid-80s to early 90s 100 series (160, 165, 170, 175, 180, 185) will fit your machine. When shopping used make sure it comes complete or adjust the price appropriately. Complete includes:

Blower unit
Two mounting arms (left and right)
Mule drive (two pulley setup for routing the belt that mounts mid-frame)
Lift arm and spout rotation linkage (two pieces that fit together)

You will also need to add ballast weight to the rear of the machine. Suitcase weights are the OEM design for this series tractor and a search here will reveal some alternative approaches like loading the tires. I have never seen rear wheel weights for the 100 series.

Funny timing on this post.

I have been looking for a snowblower for my JD 170 since I bought it earlier this spring. I have a phone app on my DROID that constantly checks craiglist for new posts that meet your keywords.

Yesterday a snowblower ad popped up. I called the guy 5 minutes later and last night I brought back a M02460X snowblower that I think is in fair condition and complete (as far as I could tell) for 200 clams. Don't know if it was the best deal but I figured one in the hand is better than two in the bush, this was the first one I saw pop up and I didn't know how many of these are even floating around out there.

This was previous thread that you may find helpful:

Here are the snow throwers that were available for the 130-185 line. Models M00246X and M02460X for model years 1986-1989, M02461X for years 1989-1990, and M02462X for years 1991 and up. They were all 38 inch throwers.
I am going to spend some time later this summer or maybe fall taking in apart, getting rid of the rust, and getting it tip top. I will post pictures of the unit when I have a chance.

So are there any tweaks for these units? I read in some other posts for a model 49 blower that you can increase the auger speed. :trink39:

Will post pictures soon. :sorry1:

$200 for a complete setup is a fair to good deal. Just this morning I saw a CL ad for an incomplete setup for $250 so if you got all the parts per my list above you're in good shape. I've been looking for a blower for my 214 and $175 - $250 seems to be the going asking prices.

Would the mule drive be a seperate part from the blower? In other words I would have had the complete blower with lift arms and all (I have all of that) and the mule drive would be a seperate unit?

I think I may be missing the mule drive, but we will cross that bridge when I get to it.

Picture tonight so we can confirm I have the whole package.

Is it possible to leave that mule drive on the tractor and then reinstall a mower deck and mow?

The guy said that he took the blower off when he moved to a new place with no driveway, and basically left it where it stood.

I am thinking it may still be installed on his tractor, but that could be wrong if you cant mow with this installed. He still has and is using the 160 it came off of. In fact he was asking me about a bagger.

If not are these parts still available?

Not possible to mount the mower deck with the mule drive installed. They use the same attachment points and there's not enough room for both. PO may have just forgotten that piece goes with the snowblower or misplaced it; I'd follow up with him ASAP. I do not know if they are available OEM from JD but doubt it or it would be big $$$. They usually go for $50 - $150 on eBay, averaging ~$100.

I will call him tonight. Hopefully he will have it in the shed some where, or will work something out. He told me if it breaks to take it back to him and get my $$$, which I thought was a crazy statement, so I think he will want to work something out.

I don't see any of them on ebay right now, I will have to keep my eyes open.

They are pretty rare on eBay too which is why they can go for half or more of the cost of a complete blower setup. Cross your fingers the guy has a lightbulb moment and starts with "Oh yeah, I wondered what that was for..."

Well looks like I am missing the left and right arm, the mule drive assembly, the lift rod, and the bracket for the chute control and lift rod.

Not my best craiglist deal by far lol.

Is there any interchange with 111 parts, like the mule drive?

I wonder if I could find some one local on this board with this setup. I bet a lot of these parts could be fabricated if I had something to copy.

Just got an email back from the guy and he thinks all extra parts were thrown out by his wife, along with his bagger. Bummer. No spare parts lying around.

I guess I am going to keep my eyes open for another blower, or a mule drive on ebay.

I respond back to tell him that what he sold me had a lot of parts missing, and that I wouldn't have paid so much if I had know that. We will see if he wants to offer up some cash back. If not I will just chalk it up as a lesson.

He made it seem like all the parts were there, but I guess he could have forgotten all of the parts that involved with hooking it up if it was a few years since he had last used it.

Ok ok, :sorry1: , I know I won't let this thread die.

I found another 175 for sale in my area with a complete snowblower. I contacted the seller and he is willing to seperate from the tractor and sell it to me for 250.

The original seller offered to give me 50 dollars back. I guess a parts blower unit was an OK purchase for 150. I can part it out on ebay, or I can keep the spares for myself. I honestly wish I could just get all my money back at give him back the blower but I won't push it and end up getting told to pound sand. I would have handled differently but I am not the seller.

Am I crazy for buying another unit for 250? I am going to make sure it is totally complete this time. It is just a tougher pill to swallow because in my mind getting a blower on this tractor is now in the 400 dollar range when I originally thought I was going to get this done for 200.:fing20:
