I have a 1983 John Deere 650 I put a new clutch in . I push the clutch in high orlow put it in gear and let the clutch out it kills the engine ,But I do have reverse Has anybody had this problem

I did notice that reverse works But if you go to fifth gear which is opposite of reverse it still goes in reverse

It stalls out when I shift from reverse to first it still goes in rev the fork is not shifting. I will have to split it to see what’s going on thank you
