I have a snapper model 2691020. approx 3 years old. runs great but the belt keeps popping off. Every thing was fine until a belt broke. In the past I have changed belts with no problems. But this time the belt wont stay on. at first it seemed the guide bar on the idler pulley that holds the belt on the pulley was bent, got a new one. still pops off. the guide bar seems tight so I bent it up,but it still pops off. I checked the new belt, its the correct belt. I have the torque specs so I know the pulley bolts are correctly tight. the pulley is sitting straight on the bar. I have looked on you tube but nothing. Thanks

Check these potential problems:

Belt routed correctly.
One or more pulleys are out of alignment.
Pulley(s) have play, allowing slight misalignment.
A pulley is slightly bent...(wobbles even a little).
Belt is too tight.
Belt does not seat in pulley(s)...ie its too wide.
Belt is bottoming out in the pulley(s)....ie its too narrow.

Maybe others can offer some added thoughts to help out.

Thank you !

Belt is routed correctly. If the belt is tight, where do I adjust that? I have looked but cant seem to find an adjustment? I am thinking the belt but how would I know what different belt to get? I am using the belt that is in the manuel. I will recheck the pulleys though. I did not check them for alignment.

We may be having trouble with identifying your mower , you say it's 3 years old ,That would make it a series 23 ,24 ,or so. The 26 inch deck (or the 25 inch) hasn't been made for several years. Also the number you gave 2691020 doesn't seem right . But most of the 25,26 and 28 inch decks use the 7022252 belt. the belt is not "very tight" even with the deck engaged, and does your deck have 1 or 2 "idler pulleys"? replacing the belt with the same part number belt usually doesn't need adjustment , and there different ways of adjustment depending on "series" please check the number ,as a 26 inch deck RER hasn't been made for many years.

The concern is that things were fine until the original belt broke. Now they pop off. Something has changed. Was the original belt worn out or did something else cause it to break? A foreign object falling between the belt and a pulley can break the belt but also bend the pulley.

A decent OEM belt should go more than 3 years unless ridden hard. That is why I thought perhaps a pulley got bent or lose allowing enough misalignment to let the belt jump.

Most idler pulleys are flat, not V grooved, and ride on the back side of the belt. I've seen belts on the wrong side of an idler that just twist the belt causing it to jump off. That's why I suggested to double check the routing.

One last thing comes to mind. Is the deck properly adjusted for tilt front to back? That being the engine to deck pulley alignment. There is going to be some misalignment here due to deck height raising and lowering but add further misalignment and the belt may just not stay on especially when the deck is lowered.

These are general suggestions as I'm not familiar with your specific deck.

here is the model #. I could have only had it for two years, seems like forever though LOL.

the original belt broke, my son thought he was far enough away from a dog toy but the tractor sucked it up.

the idler pulleys are flat so to speak but they are two parts together with a ridge in the middle.

I will check the deck tilt as well. There are two holes to hang it from. I usually hang it from the top, but Ill try the bottom. I usually cut on the third down from the top on the lever controls.

You have me completely confused. This must be one of the "NEW" RERs. I didn't think that they made a 42" deck since the 90s. We have a lot of manuals for RERs here but nothing on these. A "2-belt" deck .The illustration shows the deck belt ,but there is probably a belt from the engine too. If I had to guess , the deck is from some other mower B&S builds ,but I'm not familiar with it ,maybe someone who is, will answer.

no separate engine belt, the belt goes to the single front pulley, that is from the engine to the back four.
