The shimming for more pressure topic got me thinking about my two tractors so I'd like to purchase a gauge to see what mine are currently running at . Is there a preferred type or brand that you guys are using ? I " think " fluid filled is preferred ? For something that may only be used once a year what is a decent price for these ? I would be measuring a 318 and 330 for now .

I bought mine from McMaster-Carr.

The rule of thumb is select a gauge that is 2X the range for the process that is being measured since they are the most accurate mid scale. A fluid filled gauge is preferable in thing situation to dampen out spikes and prevent wear to the gauge. I prefer a gauge with a metal case rather that a cheaper plastic case since it often bounces around in the tool box.

I was in a hurry and just bought what was at TSC. It was liquid filled. It does fine on my Farmall M.

I was able to use the gauge just by adding the correct quick connect fitting to the gauge. In some applications it my be necessary to add a short hydraulic hose to make it easier to connect or read from the operators station. The one from AuxHydraulics (Durachoice) already has the hose attached and almost looks like the gauge I used. AuxHydraulics is a good vendor to deal with.

Yes I have dealt with AuxHydraulics in the past for a few items and was always happy with the product . I have found several online vendors selling 2000 psi stainless steel glycerin filled gauges with brass threads for 10.00 delivered ! One of them was listed as Grade A accuracy ? The rest were Grade B . Add a 2 ' hose and one male coupler and there is the kit . I need to run to TSC and check out what they have for hoses/couplers .

To get the correct one, I took one off of one of the lines from my blower and brought it with me. I would have gone to my dealer, (he should know), but he’s 25 miles away, instead of 3 to the auto parts store.
