Haven't even completely finished the yard swing yet and had to drop everything to put a new liner in the pool. Of course while I'm at it, went ahead and re-built the filter valve head, and replaced the filter sand. While I had the old liner out I noticed a few bad spots forming on the inside of the wall. This pool is over 20 years old, so I figure I'll be buying a new one next year.

Yep, tis the season, we are opening ours this Wed. since the grandkids are coming for a visit and have let me know they sure would like to be able to swim when they get here :D . Went thru the liner replacement 2 years ago, was'nt too bad if you got enough help, noticed the same thing you did, a little trouble spots seem to be starting on the inside of the walls in couple places, but ours is 16 years old, so hoping it will last a few more years and then who knows :rauch10: .

Monty .. you got 20 years out of the original liner ?? That is pretty good :fing32:

Many dont last 10 .. especially for those who dont take care of them properly .. Those that use HTH type chlorine all the time .. tear them up .. without even knowing why ..

Noooo, the pool is 20 years old. The dang liner was only 6 years old. We were using Baquacil when we first replaced the liner 6 years ago. Then year before last, for some reason I still don't fathom, we switched to chlorine...HTH.

Needless to say, we're back to Baquacil permanently.

HTH is unstablized Chlorine Paul .. its like shocking your pool all the time .. Vinyl liners dont do well with it .. it bleaches them out over time ..MUCH quicker then other sanitizers

Tri-Clor tabs are the best way to go if you use chlorine .. thur a clorinator IMHO

Likewise as Monty, started out with Chlorine, switched to Baquacil after the first year, much easier to maintain pool chemical balance and no chlorine smell or the problems associated with it like constant monitoring and bleaching out liners and bathing suits , yuck ! :rauch10:

Have had the liner in for several days now and the solar heater has done it's job! Opened the pool today to something close to bath water temp! Think I'll leave the heater off for a few days. Might even leave the blanket off tomorrow night.

ive owned my house going on 6 yrs. we had to put a liner in when we bought the house and got several years out of it, then against my constant pleading yelling and demanding the kids had to get on it when it was frozen. i punished them by not putting a new one in but i suffered more then they did not having it lol so i am now on my second liner.
