re:stamped or fabricated deck

How can I tell if I have a stamped deck or fabricated deck on my 917.273080 sears garden tractor. Also, what transaxle I have. It was manufactured Oct 2,2000. 22 horsepower kohler 2 cy., 46 inch deck. The manual says its a "deck weldment".

Re: stamped or fabricated deck

Sergeant explained this very subject to me last week...he posted some pictures that are great examples.... fabricated deck will have angled edges that have been welded...a stamped deck will have curves and rounded features..this is quite simplified...but if you have wrked with metal at all you can tell when the steel has been pressed to curve it as opposed to using flat pieces that get welded together.if I can dig out what he posted I will post the link Mark

Looks like it may be a Hydro Gear 222-3010]

Look under the tractor ( from in front of the rear tire) and see if you see a big ole transmission, Oil filter and a couple hoses. if so, it's probably the Hydro gear.

I have one of those.

Are there any stickers with model numbers on rear of the trans? Usually on right side axle housing.

It should be a Hydro-gear 222-3010L with a BDU (Pump), And a stamped deck.

If you can post a pic, we can tell you for sure. Most likely, it's stamped.

They didn't build it, it was built by Simplicity.
OK...

Not sure that was his point. Also not sure that Sears ever built any of the tractors sold with its name on them.
