First of all Hi to everyone you are an innovative bunch and the information I've found here over the last week has been Very helpful, Thank you all for that!!!

I've been dreaming of a new tractor this size for the last 20 years and Finally convinced my wife to let me get one when my 265 broke again. After a bunch of research and shopping to find something in my price and size range I settled for an X700 with 54 inch deck.

The thing is I want to put on a 3 point hitch but first off does the 3 point work if you leave the deck on in the up position locked like they say? Second how hard is the 3 point to put on and the other kit for the hydro? I grew up farming but I don't understand why the need to turn the cylinder? Is there any place that has step by step pics or video on the net of this being done to this size tractor? Finally howmuch for the hydro kit? I found the price for the 3 point but not the kit and I don't want to have to pay someone else to do this if it's a rather simple day or two of work?

Once again Thanks for the help and you all have a Great forum here.... :bannana:

My dealer just installed the three point on my x748 a couple of weeks ago. It is fairly involved, but I think I could have done it. The dealer had a tractor lift that was a big help because most of the work is under the tractor.

I have a X740. Yes, you can set the mower to max height and the controls operate the 3 point hitch. Installation - I installed the hitch on a 455, however, JD changed the hitch design for the X700 and made it more difficult to install. I use the hitch with a hitch receiver to move a trailer and to support a weight bracket when I mount the blade. Be advised that the X-series is a garden tractor, because of its weight it is limited in what you can do with it for box blading etc. I use the Kubota 2920 for that. I bought the X740 because of the suspension seat, maneuverability, no rops, and compact size. I have a lot of uneven terrain and got beat-up with the Toro zero turn. Good choice if you are primarily mowing, but want some flexibility. Also has trans cooler instead of a fan like the JD 2210 and Kubota BXs. Diesel is extremely economical.

Thanks for the replies so far!!! Yes this is a purchase mainly for mowing my hilly yard other then that I want to be able to grade the small lane I have, move the snow and alittlle garden work like plowing, disc work ect. Mostly mowing and snow work though, with a 1 acre yard and 3/4 acre garden this should be more then capable. I think and hope I made the right decision?

What did your dealer charge on the 3 point install? Mine was talking over 1K for everything. Oh my cousin is a mechanic and said we can use his lift and experience, can this be done in a day or two?

I had my 3-pt and pto purchased and installed by the dealer for right at $1150, so what yours is telling you sounds about right. The install is fairly straightforward. There is a photo series of the PTO installation here, listed as a "sticky". The 3-pt is actually more involved than the pto, as you have to remove the seat, fender pan, and fuel tank to get to the rather confined area. I took my tractor in in the morning, they had it ready just after lunch, so for a couple of handy guys who haven't seen it done, you could probably do it in a day.

You asked earlier about why the cylinder has to be turned. The lift cylinder is initially in position to just lift the deck, so it is hooked directly to the rockshaft in order to lift it. However, the 3-pt hitch will be picking up a LOT more weight, so the cylinder is moved so it gets better leverage and there is less linkage that has to bear the weight of something like a tiller or heavy plow, etc.

Congats on you Big X, yer gonna luv it.

The 3 pt is move involved than the PTO. I was going to do a thread on the 3pt install like I did for the PTO as I did take a few pictures of my install but there are many little steps and did not know if I would really cover it all as well as needed, it would have more hit on the steps I got photos of. The instructions provided are Ok but there are a few steps you really just have to look at it and figure out how it is supposed to go as they in a few places just say attach part 'a' to part 'b' but the catch is you can flip that part 'a' multiple ways. You really only have to remove the wheels and they don't even have you do that .. but it is really needed to make room to work right, of course you need a jack and some jack stands for that and you need to be able to get your hands into tight places. If your good with mechanical things then with some patience you could probably do it. It is hard for me to judge how hard the job is as I have had some personal experience working on different things in tight places. Oh I was missing one washer from the kit but a quick trip to the hardware store and I was going again and honestly it would probably have worked without it.

It has been sitting in the garage for a week, Thanks for asking. I need to get pics when I get it out again. Frustrating when it's been raining since Thursday night and I can't even play with my new toy on a three day weekend.. :hide:

Plan to order the 3 point within the next week or so when I get back to the dealer for some other items. I did start making a blade out of a hot water heater lastnight after reading STLadrils post on that. Found a 60 inch water heater in the scrap at a friends shop yesterday and said I need that. :bannana:

Guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow night after work if the sun is shining anyway, seat time.. :greendr:

Just now hit me, can my X700 work the 3 point and the hydraulics in the front at the same time on the quicktac snow plow or blower? I've been all over the web and haven't seen anything on this yet. I should've thought to ask the dealer and forgot, Sorry for all the questions but that one just suddenly hit.

Thanks again Andy! Thats what I was thinking too from what I was just reading in the manual. Hmmmmmmmm I might have to get inventive on this one or go to a 2305, like the wife would let that happen.. :eek:mg: .. Sounds like Mr Winch will be going on the front is what I'm thinking. Thanks for the help once again.. :trink39:
