OK. So I was mowing and enjoying the smell of grass, er I mean gas. Finished what i could, pulled the mower in and the top two screws of the fuel pump assembly were stripped and sticking out about 1/4 inch. I knew there was an issue but let it ride and here I am.

I have pulled off the fuel pump and the area around it. The pictures are below. Looks like something is sticking out too far. Can anyone suggest a fix?

This is a Kohler Command
FAMILY SKH624UI62RA
MODEL CH205
SERIAL 2929112671
SPEC 64631
DISP 624

more pics. Notice one screw is chewed up. See the plastic is all gone too.

If an over long screw wasn't installed, then your problem dwells further in, as the damaged screw has clearly been abraded by a moving part. I haven't yet touched a Kohler OHV unit, so can't speak to the identity of the offending part.

Looks likie the screws & cover were a previous malady and somebody replaced the rocker arms and pump.. Your present trouble is most likely caused by a fuel pump problem.. The plunger dislodged/ pump diaphram cracked and started filling the engine with gas.. As far as the stripped threads go, get a couple brass concrete anchors and machine/ press fit them into your holes.. If you can't do that, install lock-nuts and rubber washers & sealer (**check clearance to prevent rocker damage!**) Best I can do.. :goodl:

so I don't need to buy a new one...worth a try. I just want to check that 'T' shaped thing for damage but your suggestion is one without any expense and if it works all the better. If not I'll buy a new part but free is better.

As far as I know from working at our local cub dealership, the fuel pump isnt sold as a seperate part, you have to get a whole rocker cover/pump set to replace a faulty pump. I just did this on a Walker brand ZTR mower last week as his pump was filling his crank case with fuel. Runs great now. Give the cub dealership a call and they will fix you right up. Mike

OK in my non technical terms...I put the thing back together with some spacers under the thing that runs from the screws, over the pump rod, to the spring. Just enough space to put it back near where it would be before all this happened. I don't think that thing was crossed on the spring correctly before. I screwed the whole thing together and ran the motor for 10 minutes. No gas leak, no backfire and no screws loosened. I'll keep an eye on it and if the part is cheap just change it in the next few weeks. if the part is crazy expensive, I'll let it ride.
