I had the chance to buy an old heavy duty trailer the other day and since I have been looking for something to pick up dirt/rocks/mulch with I went and bought it.
It had wood deck and sides, but they were very rotten and needed a complete rebuilt. Fortunately the wife was understanding enough to let me use the garage and relegate the cars to the outside for the 2 days it took me. The weather was unusually cold the last few days so a heated garage is great.

Anyway after I was done I tried out my drawbar on the Legacy 3 point hitch.

That is a pretty big trailer for a little tractor :thThumbsU

Here is another angle

I was impressed that the tractor had no problems pulling the trailer. However it was struggling a little with traction on the dew wet grass when backing up the hill with the turfs. Had I kept the ags on I am sure it would have been no problem.
I did switch down to low range just to give the tractor a bit of a break.

I was also amazed at how easy it is to hook up with a 3 point draw bar since you just back in and lift.

The trailer is an estimated 2000 lb, may even be a little more since it is an old equipment trailer with two 3500 lb axles and stabilizer jacks in the back.

The drawbar I used was purchased on Ebay at as listed below

Nice, and a nice trailer too. Looks to be perfect size for towing the legacy around.

Thanks for the compliment on the trailer.
I did go all out and mimicked how it was originally build 10+ years ago and used through lag bolts for the side construction. That is so much more solid than just screwing the parts together. Once you get into a routine it was actually not too bad as I just drilled - pounded lag bolt through and put nylock nuts on using a small impact driver.

The hassle was going through 2 cutting discs on the angle grinder to remove the excess bolt length :eek:mg:

This trailer is 16' x 6.5' with dual 3,500 lb axles. Furthermore it is older so it is built like a tank. It is a bit large for the Legacy as that one is only 12' with the ballast box on the rear. However it may work out good that there is some room in front of the tractor for other stuff or attachments.

It took me two solid days to complete this as I took off all the wood including the deck and started from scratch. Considering I had never tried this before I am pleased with the result. :trink39:

Pretty cool. If you don't mind sharing did you use the buy it now or make an offer? If so what did you pay for the drawbar?
I made an offer for quite a bit less than the asking price. I was actually surprised when it was accepted immediately. I must still have been above the automatic acceptance he had set.
I think it is a pretty good deal for a very well made product.
