Good work! I got to take a look at the 180 transaxle. It skips in second gear. Already changed case on it.

This is my first attempt at a transaxle repair. Hopefully I will get it going without too much trouble.

We are going to repair the pulley rather than buy a new one. Just chuck it in the lathe, bore and sleeve it, and swag a new keyway. All with Dads guidance of course since he is the machinist.

Drilled out my broken bolt and ran a tap thru to clean up the threads. Cleaned up and selected the best parts from both axles. It should be ready to assemble after the paint dries on the case halves.

Looks real nice! We inadvertently had to take a hydro apart today. Dad was swapping bad tires off a flip and left was so rusted on he wound up hitting shaft out. Used torch and still issue.
I bet that trans will look cool under tractor with paint!

It should look similar to the rear axle in my 111.

Dad finished the pulley repair. After he bored out the old mangle hole he made a press fit plug, welded it in, and then drilled and bored to size. Then he used the keyway cutter in the press to finish up. Looks like its going to work.

Assembled the transaxle today. After filling with grease I put a bead of RTV and bolted it together. Everything seems to work so I can proceed with installation.

Installed the transaxle, now to get it running. Hooked up a battery and no cranky. After some voltmeter testing I found I had a 5.5v voltage drop thru the solenoid and the starter would barely spin. Pulled the starter and put 12v directly to the starter and it spins good. May pull a starter from one of my other tractors just to get it running and see if its worth fixing or replacing the starter.

Got the STX38 running after unhooking the kill wire to the coil and jumping the starter. Not sure if I am fighting the safety switches or other electrical issues at this point.

The transaxle seems to work fine, but I get some noise with the clutch released. I will start by checking the idler pulley's and see if one or more of them is the problem. Hope is not the trans. I'll post a vid when I get it uploaded.

I checked out the Idlers and found 2 that were really noisy. The electrical problems look to be safety switches and one broken wire. With a couple of jumper wires I was able to get it to start with the key switch. I also checked for charging at the battery and found nothing so I need to test the charging system to see where the problem is. I think at this point I will go ahead with fixing it rather than parting it out.

Around here, $500 would establish the high range of asking prices. You'll see them for $100 or less for parts or repair.

Typically, you're in the $300 range for an operable tractor, and most will have a cracked, destroyed, (or missing) hood.

A bagger might add value, though I'm not sure hydro vs gear drive makes a lot of difference in actual price.

My experience anyways...:tango_face_wink:

DaddyJohn right. For a while we sold over ten of them I think. Got $4-550 for them depending on how they looked. Yours sounds and moves good by looks of it!

:thanku: guys. I searched CL and not many for sale out this way right now, but your pricing looks about right.

I should add that t get it running I pulled a starter off my GT225 which cranked it over nicely.

Check for corrosion on key switch and terminals! We had issue before and with PTO switch.
