Back on the 6th of May in the year of '06' I built this shed.. I scaled down a real big barn that I tore down in '05'.. the scale is 1-3.. in other words my barn covers (on the ground) 1/9th of the original barn.. the original barn was 40 deep x 60 front x 36 tall.. my lil barn is just 1/3 of that.. or 13-4 x 20 x 12.. the roof angle is 25 degrees from horizontal.. all roofs r this angle.. to give u guys an idea of the size of things I had my wife pose in a couple pics.. she stands 5 foot 11 tall..

for lumber I used the lumber I salvaged from the real shed.. there is only 2 doors on it.. they have an overlap feature when closed.. it's hard to see the doors (when closed) from a distance

the pics show this barn needs some repair today.. some of the old shiplap I used on the outside is gettin rotten.. specially at the bottom.. I made a big mistake when we poured the concrete.. the pad is bigger than the barn base..

I'm presently lookin for red painted FLAT steel to cover this shed.. II also wanna use a concrete saw to cut off the excess concrete on the outside..

I'll include other measurements later..

to b continued..

Cool little barn! I read your description of it in another thread, the pictures really help show what you have there. Looks like it would be a great garden tractor shed!

Now I get it Whirly. Thanks. I always thought it was a full size barn when seeing your avatar.

That is a clever one-of-a-kind attractive shed.

I'll look forward to following whatever you ad about it

in the first pic that is a 1963 Cubby 100.. notice how nicely it fits under the side roof.. that's a 24 foot extension ladder hung on the roof rafters too.. I made special hangers for it..

now I have made several comments that there is no post holdin up the upper loft part.. in the second pic this is shown.. there is a vertical 2 x 6 with 2 x 4's attached to it that the upper wall is supported by..

in the next 2 pics I used a lotta 'hurricane ties' to hold the rafters to the walls..

Rather than cutting the concrete, cut the boards shorter so they aren’t sitting in the water. If you cut the concrete, that area will just eventually fill in with dirt and the boards will rot even faster.
I’d also suggest not using flat metal, if you can even find it. There’s a reason metal siding and roofing is corrugated. There’s absolutely no structure to flat sheet metal. No matter what, it’s a wavy mess when you get it applied. It also lets water in.

It's a really nice looking building.

it's my 'store whatever' lil shed.. the other side has a pickup load of 2 x 12's & 2 x 6's of special 'knot free' lumber I wanna use yet for makin stuff like an entertainment center.. that wood is Minnesota Red Pine.. it has a redish brown tint to it..

well.. I didn't want to use the stuff they use on barns today.. think they call it 'Ranch style' .. what I've seen on roofs have the round bends.. this ranch has the square bends which r bigger.. those bends r about 9 inches apart too..

the plan is to remove some of the dirt next to the slab.. the slab was on top of the ground.. then dirt filled in sloping away ..

I also wanted to raise the entire shed 1 1/2 inches & slide in treated lumber after I cut the concrete anchors off.. put longer ones in when done..

I think it is very worthwhile to figure out some sort of forever fix. Too nice a shed to lose.

Perhaps raise the whole of it to sit on a treated sill atop a row of cinder blocks laid and mortored together on top of your slab?

Seems do-able. And would insure it is out of ground contact. No? Mostly labor, short on materials needed.

Just a thought

onto more pics.. in the first pic is the tin roof on the shed.. these panels came off the original barn & were used to replace the ceder shingles.. think this was done in the 60's.. in the second pic is a view of the underside of the tin.. notice the white spots.. they r the nail holes from the original installation.. I filled them in with pure clear silicon caulk.. they look like worms on the bottom..

Whirly, Whirly, Whirly, yup ya blew it.

All of us looking at the avatar thought that barn stood 30' at the center. Room for 50 GT in it. Each one having it's own stall.

With a hay loft to store attachments to boot. And a powered bale lifter on a track to get them all in and out and out of it.

There maybe a way you can still salvage this. Maybe you could try to claim your wife really stands 15' tall. Think it would work?
I doubt it, I think it is too late. Too many smart folks on this forum.

I have to say that is a nice looking shed. Very unique. Always admired it.

I have to agree with mjmj on the flat steel. I once had some flat sheets of thin steel from a printing press. About an inch each side larger than the old large newspaper double pages. Tried to side a small 6x8 fish house I made. Was awful hard to get it to stay straight. One little nail go a little bit off and you would have a wrinkle or a bulge in it.

Looking forward to seeing what you do to fix it up.

I could use the 3 1/2 inch 'cap' blocks (solid concrete stuff) to go under my walls.. maybe that would b enuff.. BTW.. thanks for the tip..

the rehab is still in the plannin stage.. I have several options I can do.. I'm limited on time to do it too.. way too many irons in the fire now.. the tin option has me goin round in circles tho.. I just got new parts for my 'Perky' project too.. they gotta b installed & tested yet.. think I got his tire prob solved.. he will b my major snow removal machine..

his new home will b in this shed.. electricity is in it.. easier to get out too..

OOOHHH this lil barn was the talk of the town when I built it.. first I had to convince the city people it was a storage shed not a huge big barn.. the FFA school kids came up with a 'fundraiser' project called 'barn quilts'.. they painted these up & the REA linemen installed them on farmer's barns.. these really went over good.. now they r all over our state.. even see a few in other states now too..

I made one of them for my lil barn.. I used the 'recycle' triangle for it... as seen in the pics on the haymow door.. did this since it was made of recycled lumber & materials.. it took me all summer to get it all done & painted.. now I wanna make it so I don't gotta make repairs every 10 years.. 10 years from now I may b just a memory too.. but I want this barn to last a lifetime...

let's go upstairs in the shed.. there is storage area in the upper high part.. as seen in this pics.. I need to take a few more of that to show how big it is.. I can walk under this area without hittin my head on stuff..

That's a great looking barn Wirly

You learned why they call them "widows peaks"

No not that kind.

Yeah that's it ,
they look so simple until your on the ladder trying to figure out how you will reach the end.
Or on the roof nailing shingles , it doesn't matter if it's 10 feet or 30 feet it's not a good feeling !

By the way nice hidden door !

Ha! I can certainly believe that. It fooled me until you described it to me a few months ago.

I've seen those barn quilts all over the country. I love them. I'd like to make one for our new barn someday.
